Franchise him and then trade him off for an late-first or early second.
Once the player signs the franchise tender, they cannot be traded or cut until that contract expires.

Ok, so you don't get your name engraved on the Lombardi (I did know that, I saw the trophies at training camp last year, hehe). My point remains. And hell, if I wanna skate around the ice with a Lombardi trophy, there's nobody that can stop me, I just need to get my hands on one first! ; )

The other thing that I get a kick out of is all this talk about how good Phili has done with their Cap and letting players go and then replacing them etc.

Well, how many Superbowl wins does Phili have in the last 20 years. Isn't their trophy case empty. They made it to one superbowl and then let the guy go (I would have too) that is now on our team and suppossed to lead us to the promised land. Did they replace TO, no. Their WR's suck and that's why they struggle. Take the absolutely fantastic and still totally underrated Westbrook off that team and they are a .500 team now. So what if they have tons of cap space, if they don't use it and don't win, what difference does it make?

Patriots are another matter, but they brought in 3 excellent WR's this last offseason. They franchised Samuel. They are willing to retain their better players. They let a RB go in Dillon, but he was a back with a lot of miles, and they brought him in first.

I don't buy this arguement that you let the old guys go and your always going to hit in the draft and replace them. Nope. NE is actually quite willing to go pay veterans to plug in and fix holes. I'm not saying they would pay Flo 10 million a year, I just think this theory that Phili and NE let guys walk all the time and look how good they are is a bit silly. NE didn't win last year, and WHOOP all of a sudden they started signing free agents. Phili didn't even make the playoffs this year, and I feel if they wouldn't have been so cheap they would have been more competitive over last 2 years, despite the injuries.

Then you have guys like Parcells who brings in tons of veterans, and pays them, even though they are really potentially washed up. The Rivera's, the Fabini's, etc etc. A 33 year old Pro-bowl left tackle with an 18 game starting QB with huge upside. Hmmmm, I still don't wanna mess with it until you are more confident you have a replacement. That being said, I don't want Flo to cost more than 6 million a year either, which may be totally unrealistic. I just wish Flo would care enough to want to stay for a FAIR contract.

Either him or Columbo needs to go....I prefer Adams talent...but I like Columbos attitude. This team is much shorter on attitude than it is on talent. So I say let Houck earn his money coaching one of the young guys up and let Adams go.

I say let both go, these guys are professionals and they sure haven't showed me much outside of the regular season, flo isn't worth 10 mil a year and Colombo can be replaced

I wouldn't pay him big money, we didn't draft these young guys to sit,Flo doesn't move well and I believe he hurts the running game. The tough part here is he is still pretty good at pass blocking and it is Romo's blind side

Well, I did say the Patriots are another matter. BUT, I also gave examples of all the Free Agents they pay, and pay nicely to fill holes, and gave example of even Franchising a player.

I don't see them cutting strings with Brusci, Seymour, Vrabel, etc, even though some of those guys are nearing or in the twilight of their careers. If the guy is a probowler they generally do try and retain him. I can't think of a probowler they let walk away. I might be wrong, do you have an example?

The other thing is that the Patriots were/are 2-3 (maybe 3-5) years further along in their STRONG team phase. Heck they are a dynasty. Maybe the last. But they had the depth to allow a guy to leave here and there, and started getting that depth just as Dallas started digging itself out of salary cap hell. Our team is very young, the Pats is probably one of the older ones now, although they have a good mix.

I understand your sentiment, but I just feel that it's too difficult to easily replace pro-bowlers that are still playing at their prime level. LT's especially. Roy Williams would be a separate matter for me mind you.
