Dallas should try to get Josh Freeman

I think Dallas should try to get Freeman from the Bucs with the condition of a different contract. I confess I don't even know if that is doable under the salary rules of the NFL. But if that were possible I would do it. I would make clear to Freeman that he is an investment in the present (as a backup) and for the future. I would give him two or three years of preparation. That guy has a TON of physical ability. If he could take hold of the current culture in the Cowboys organization it could rescue his career and give us insurance at QB and possibly our future.

I admit I'm just brainstorming, but any thoughts?

I knew it was only a matter of time before this thread was made...

I knew this thread was coming, but it's also not a bad idea. The Bucs are dysfunctional. Freeman potentially just needs a new start.

Matter of time or not, is it a bad thought? Quite honestly it might be. Freeman might be a bad egg who just doesn't have what it takes as a leader. What I know is undeniable is his physical ability. So my question is, if you could rework a contract and have him as a backup/possible guy when Romo is done, is it a bad move?

The guy has been terrible and I highly doubt he wants to sit on the bench for the next 4+ years and by then, he wouldn't be considered a starter anymore anyway.

The guy has been terrible and can't even show up to team photos and you want him here? To do what? I doubt he wants to be a backup.

I already defined what his role would be. Go back and read it. And I also acknowledged that you might be right. Maybe he is just a bad egg. Then again maybe he is frustrated beyond belief by what is happening at Tampa.

Your vote would obviously be a no, and I take no issue with you. You may well be right. I think I would take a chance on it, again, if it would even be possible from a contract point of view.

So you think Freeman would want to sit for the next 4+ years? Even if he did, nobody that sits that long in the middle of their career would ever be considered a serious starter again. This guy isn't a rookie. He's been a starter for years...

He'd be a good back up. Not a bad idea. But orton can probably play 3-4 years as a back up for us too if he wanted too.

Word is that Freeman isn't a hard worker and is causing team conflicts in the lockerroom here in Tampa. I'd pass

I'm not sure Romo has 4 years. But if he does Freeman would be 29. Romo would be 37. That would mean that Freeman (if he played as long as Romo) would have 8 full seasons to be the starter. Brandon Weeden was drafted last season with the 22nd pick of the 1st round as a 28 year old.

If he is causing team conflicts, then we have our answer. You live in Tampa (it sounds like), so you would know more than I.

Stopped reading right here.. i have to ask the OP:

Have you ever heard in the history of sports of a trade being made for a player "with the condition of a different contract" when they already have a contract in place?

This isn't your Madden franchise..

Name one QB who had a horrible first few years, who was then benched in the middle of his career, for years, and was considered a serious starter after that?

Yep, he is a bad egg. Not that's he's a terrible human being, but he's lazy and gets by on his physical ability. He had that rep even in college.

There's a reason Schiano hasn't been sold on him, and that's it. Schiano is a true discipinarian and a heck of a coach IMO, and I'd trust his feeling on this.

Jim Plunkett

Tommy Maddox also reemerged and led the Steelers to the playoffs.

Yea, like I said, this is probably the truth and if so, unless someone could get through to him, it will be the story of his career.

He comes at 8 mill and there are a number of comments about his work ethic he was even replaced earlier as a team captain. Freeman is not the kind of guy this team needs. Garrett has weeded out the headcase why start adding them back. Not even Jacksonville is interested in Freeman
