Some of the members on the "other" board and this one even criticized me for being too nice. If you want to re-hash that we can get Mods on this board an on the other board involved who were closer to the situation then you were and know the truth.

Seeing you back posting (under a new user name nonetheless) brings back alot of memories since i haven't posted on that board in a long time and just started posting here again a couple of days ago. I remember when Boozman, SBK and dang near everyone over there use to clown your arse every day.

Just about nobody liked you because you always acted like a irascible child, bragged about all the money you had and quite frankly being bigot.

I really enjoy the Ticket. Bob and Norm talk sports and they have guests on throughout the day, that add in sports talk. Donovan and George seem somewhat knowledgable. Greg Williams is so disinterested in sports it's rediculous. I like the character Greggo, but I hate when he tries to talk sports.

The other guys can't put 5 legit sports thoughts together in a day, but they are pretty funny. I love the bits.

These are RECENT comments by a very respected person on this board. Clearly, I have not been posting on this forum as much as I did about a year or so ago. I stopped posting on all Message Boards for a while because of work and getting ready for Grad School. Gawd dang your are dense!!!!

Yeah, they suck at the Ticket. That whole being the #1 sports radio station in the Country and winning the Marconi stuff is all by accident.

Sports Radio should beat you down with sports. A real sports radio station would talk about the upcoming Giants game 12 hours a day all week long to make sure that everything is covered.

The Ticket is the #1 sports radio station in the USA. They won the Marconi award this year and they have phenomenal ratings. As a media member I'll tell you that it's widely known that pure sports-talk stations fail on a regular basis. The sports stations that win are the one's that have programming like this...

50% Sports Talk
50% Guy Talk (funny news, chicks, technology, crude humor, etc.)

If you notice the stations that talk X's and O's hour after hour while taking hundreds of calls from guys like "Cowboy Billy" and "Longhorn Larry" have very low ratings and extremely small cumulative audience sizes.

When I was in LA, I listened almost exclusively to 1540 the Ticket. The first few years they had friggin Roger Lodge on the morning show with the color guy for the Chargers -- name escapes me. You think a show with the host of Blind Date is going to be all sports, all the time? Of course not. But they had just enough sports talk IMO.

Then they had James Brown's national show on the 10-noon slot. Terrible. He talked all sports all the time, and he was the most lifeless, devoid of personality, talk show host I had ever heard. Part of it was the fact he's boring, but if he had some kind of change of pace, it may have been a bit more bearable.

Then in the noon to 2 hours, they had Petros Papadakis. You may know him as he's been the color guy for the FSN Pac 10 games the past couple of years. His show was absolute greatness, probably the best in the city. And it was about a 50-50 split like you said above. But he had movie of the week segments where he would spend an entire segment on one movie from the 80s or 90s that was usually a lesser known or a cult hit.

The stuff like that is the change of pace type of things you have to have to be successful. Would you watch SportsCenter reruns all day if that's all ESPN ran? Or do you enjoy the PTI's, the Contenders, the Original Programming ESPN does? There's a reason they don't run SC all day. And it's the same reason the best "sports radio" stations don't talk local sports all day long.

If the Ticket did only sports, the summer listening would be unbearable. You might get a few Cowboys tidbits, maybe one Mavs story a week, and then baseball all the time. You'd catch audiences who only tune in the fall for cowboys talk, then left the rest of the year. They want loyal listeners, so they have to spice it up.
