matt bonner has to be the worst big man to ever start an nba playoff game!! that being said, its just one game, we have lost the first game of the playoffs quite often in the duncan era, no biggie. monday becomes a must win though. i expect tim and tony to have monster games and the spurs to romp, but who knows....man i miss that ginobili!

Bonner is a good player, but he excels at forcing slower, plodding big men out to the perimeter to guard his long jumpers/3's (if they don't, he makes them pay). But for the Mavs that basically means Dirk can camp out at the 3 point line on defense and catch a breather. No es bueno.

And then on defense he can't really guard Dirk, either. He's not very useful in this series. They contained Dirk fairly well (something like 18 and 8). Really, of Josh Howard, Dirk and Jason Terry, Josh was the only one who had a good game. But the other roleplayers really stepped up, which has been the problem this year when typically they don't. We'll find out if Dirk/Terry will step up in the remaining games, or if the roleplayers will continue their play, or not.

How did Ryan Hollins look?

He only played 40 seconds at the end of the 2nd quarter. With two seconds left in the half we was wide open under the basket and caught a nice pass from Kidd, then poked it up and through for two points to cut the deficit to 2 points, 49-47.

But the reason he was wide open was because he was several feet out of bounds when he caught the pass, so the basket did not count, they took the points and the ball away and that was the end of the half.

And, that was about it from Hollins in the game. I love his energy, but with the way Damp was playing last night, he was just not needed. It's still early, but I think Carlisle is going to go with a very streamlined, seven or eight man rotation in this series so we may not be seeing much of him. I was also expecting to see more out of James Singleton and I think he played even fewer minutes than Hollins did (38 seconds or so).

Good to see that the Spurs lost. I was almost sure the refs would fix it for SA.

I'm rooting for Portland this playoffs, but doubt they will go very far.

Pops Adjustment: +1

Dallas, once again with a BRUTAL start to the game. Hopefully Terry can make it "only" a 10 point digit deficit going into the 2nd half with these 3 FTs (after down 21!! good grief, guys).

SA has done a great job of switching it up on defense. Jason Terry is really bothered; he's clanking three's off the front rim and missing point blank layups. They also seem to be targeting Bass and Barea more on the offensive end. The Spurs are also eating our lunch on the glass (24-12 rebounding advantage).

And need I say it, Tony Parker is on fire.

Terry hit 2 out of 3 to make it 57-46 Spurs after two.

Dallas is shooting 42.9%, SA 56.8%.

that was a stupid foul by both mason and bowen on terry at the end. but they should have called the foul on bass too if they are gonna call that kinda stuff. i didnt like the run at the end, i still pretty worried about this game.

MVPotTP of the game has to be gooden so far.

ps MVPotTP means MVP other than Tony Parker

I have no idea how we're down only 11. Jeez.

classic spurs meltdown at the end of the half when up by a lot. which surely will be folled by lots of F and S bombs courtesy of Pop in the lockerroom. i like it when he tears into them because its what i would do

Man, the Mavericks really have to find someone who can defend a guard with speed. It's a bit ridiculous at this point.

btw, just to show my complete unbias, ahem ahem, dick stockton is def cheering for the spurs!! its pretty obvious. (as a background to that, he use to do the play by play for the spurs with sean elliott up to a couple of years ago when tnt hired him. they also wanted sean but he said he couldnt do spurs games without being blantantly unbiased.)
