88-67 final.

Did Duncan get hurt? He only played 15 minutes and had 2 fouls....? I don't even think he played in the second half. He had less minutes than any other Spur.

It was such a blowout the Spurs benched their starters midway through the 3rd quarter

it was just one of those games where no matter what they did nothing went right. lots of turnovers early and missed shots that they normally make. game 4 becomes must win for us, i expect us to put forth a much better effort and win on saturday.

excellent game for the mavs though

hell, i think they benched the starters in the second quarter, i saw a george hill/ jacque vaughn backcourt on my way out of pluckers (on a side note, there was this EXTREMELY, SUPER HOT girl working as a hostess, i couldnt keep myself from looking over at her every once in a while, and the boring game didnt help, lol)

anywho, too many margaritas, gotta work at7 30 night yall

Okay, just got back from the AAC.

:yourock:

Great game by the Mavs. There's not much I can add to what's already been said, but I agree with MC KAos - it was just one of those nights for the Spurs where nothing was working. I don't expect the Spurs starters to shoot sub-30% in any other game, or to out rebound them 42-28 like we were around the 3rd/4th quarter. Mavs got out to a quick start tonight (FINALLY!) and it was the Mavs that had the 11 point 1st quarter lead this time, and never let up. The Spurs just could not buy a jump shot tonight.

Dirk also came back with his first real impactful offensive game in this series, and they were finally able to contain Tony Parker. It was hard to tell without replay but seemed like they played a 2-3 zone most of the time to clog up his lanes, which forced him to shoot jumpers. And unlike the past two games, they just were not going down. Jason Terry still looks off.

The score goes back to zero for game four, so it will be a new game on Saturday. I expect the Spurs to bounce back, but the Mavs need to take care of their homecourt and really put the pressure on them.

Both sides were able to rest their starters tonight, so even though they play again in a little over 36 hours, there shouldn't be much of a problem, especially for the gimpy ones like Duncan and Howard.

What kind of team benches their starters during a playoff game because they are losing?

i would normally question a coach for doing that too, but then i remember our coach is gregg popovich and how often ive looked like a fool for screaming at the tv because im angry at something he does, only to have him make me look like a complete idiot later.

basically what im saying is that im gonna give pop the benefit of the doubt here.

i think the blowouts are done with, i expect game four to be very close, but i think we will pull it off. roger mason is due to have big game

Agreed. He has the jewelry to earn at least that. This series is still far from over.

Mavs up 87-82 with 7:33 left in the game. Parker has 43 points (the Spurs playoff record is 46 by George "Iceman" Gervin).

Spurs scoring:

Tony Parker - 43
Tim Duncan - 25
Rest of team - 18

If ever there was a case of how much they miss Manu Ginobili, that's it.

On the flip side, Jason Terry and Dirk Nowitzki are a combined 6-23 for 20 points, yet have a 6 point lead because of the joint efforts from the rest of the team.

Soon to be 5 point lead after the Tech on Hollins for taunting. (Btw, heck of a game so far by Ryan Hollins on Duncan. Lots of hustle plays, blocks, rebounds, and pretty decent defense.)

Hollins is not much of a free throw shooter though (59% during the season). 5 point lead with 1 minute left, so no pressure, right? Yeah, he missed them both.

Finley throws up a 3 and it gets stuck between the rim and the backboard. That becomes a jump ball and Howard grabs the tip and takes it to the basket for the foul. 99-90 after the free throws. Mavs win it and go up 3-1!!

Tony Parker missed two free throws down the stretch that would have cut the lead to 3 or 4. Some might say he choked, but he scored 43 points and is nearly the entire offense (Duncan had a good game, but this offense runs through TP). He has to be exhausted, and you have to know he gave it all he has, but those might come back to haunt him.

Mavs still need to win one more (Mavs were up 3-1 in 2006 and still took OT in game 7 to get win #4), but I'm much happier being up 3-1 than the opposite. Another big game on Tuesday night. The Spurs won't go down without a fight.

It's going to be hard for him to do that coming off the bench. But Pops tried adjusting the starting lineup by inserting Bruce Bowen to counter JJB; that didn't really work.

The Spurs have the same problem the Mavs have had off and on the last few years - the roleplayers aren't stepping up. Duncan and Parker are bringing it, and Bowen has pretty much negated Jason Terry on the defensive end, but I can't name one other player on the Spurs who has made much of a difference outside of the Big Two. Finley had a big game in Game 1 with 19 points, but he was also had something like -18 +/- differential.

Speaking of Finley, he's pretty much a spot-up shooter now, which is why Josh Howard has had such a good series, being matched up with him.

In Game 2 Mason, Bonner and Gooden all scored in double figures. They need to do that consistently to add to Duncan and Parker's scoring, or they just do not have enough offense. I expect them to play much better in San Antonio on Tuesday.
