Now the match up between Mavs and Denver (which is looking like so far) will be interesting one. This will be the tell tell for the Mavs in my opinion.

They were 0-4 against Denver, but it's hard to gauge those losses since Howard missed two games completely and played a combined 30 minutes or so in the other two (in and out from injuries). Kidd also missed the last game. One game we lost by 10 (98-88), and the other three we lost by a combined 7 points.

I think the Nuggets may be too athletic and deep for us, but with the way we have been playing lately (and the return of 2006 Josh Howard), I'm looking forward to this next series. This last month or so has been a blast, and I'll enjoy it until it ends, the later the better.

i havent been this dissapointed in the spurs in a long time. its hard to envision the spurs getting any better in the offseason considering we lack a first round pick and cap space. i guess our only hope is that ginobili was really that big for this team, but i think the problems go beyond that. even with ginobili you need more than 3 guys consistently being able to score to win in this league. At least we got to see a lot of george hill, i was very encouraged by his playing ability and hope he gets a lot more minutes next year. the only way we will be any better next year is if we can actually stay healthy, resign gooden, somehow replace finley, bonner, oberto and maybe have ian mahinmi actually start showing some of his potential.

as for the mavs, they did a hell of a job in this series, they were clearly the better team and completely owned us in every facet of the game. however, the nuggets are gonna stomp you guys, its not even gonna be close. just keeping it real, it would have been the same for us. i think the spurs (normaly, at this point) mavs, hornets and jazz are all at about the same level or close. houston and portland a little bit above and the nuggets and lakers way above. that should be a fun series to watch though (denver vs LA)

One more thing about the Spurs - I think Duncan is worn down right now. He had a pretty good series as he always does in the playoffs, so it's kind of deceptive - but he wasn't dominant. He didn't control the series like he usually does. And I think it's because he's still not right. He's starting to rack up a lot of mileage on the odometer, and I think his knees are still bugging him. Hopefully he is able to heal over the summer and come back at 100% next year.

Interesting comments by Jason Terry right now... "There's a sense of urgency with this team, Jason Kidd probably won't be back next year..."

Hmm....

That was surprising to hear from JET. I think he would like to take that back. I actually think Kidd is making a bigger and bigger case for Cuban to re-sign him in the offseason. We'll have more money to offer, just hopefully they can sign him to a more cap friendly deal (one year deal with second or third year options).

I agree. I just hope they make at least interesting. If they can keep the momentum they have now, it will be interesting match-up.

I'm almost worried to see them rest for a few days, I don't want them to lose the momentum they are carrying with them right now. I say almost, sense you do not want to let up on a team down 3-1 so they get back into the series.

if the mavs wanna have any shot of keeping the series interesting the key is gonna be game 3, there is no way in hell the mavs win game 1 or 2 in denver. but if they win game 3 and get the crowd rilled and some confidence anything can happen from that point, but again, its really hard for me to see anyone competing with the lakers, nuggets in the west and with the cavs in the east. unless its the celtics, they have a lot of pride and play at the lever of whomever their playing, obviously being a bad thing sometimes

bill simmons made a good point in an article earlier this year. most nba players start a decline once they hit 1000 games played (combined playoff and regular season) duncan and garnett have hit that this past season and their injuries/play is starting to show that. another point he made is that knee injuries in nba big men past 1000 games is like the kiss of death. i think the duncan you saw in this series and throughout this year is as best as it will get from now on. garnett i think is the same, but i think duncan is gonna have an easier time with it than garnett because duncan never relied on atheltic ability as much as with just technique and basketball IQ

Good point. I read the same stuff from BS and meant to make a point of that. Duncan does have a high BBIQ and will end up playing a lot longer for that reason alone. If they can pick up a decent PF/C to give him rest and fewer minutes during the regular season, that will help a lot.

If they want to win the series I think they need to take one in Denver early and build from there. If Denver starts 2-0 I just don't see the Mavs being able to make up the difference over the final five games.

The Celtics are playing very well considering no KG. Rondo is really turning into a great PG.

I think this is a different Mavs team than the Nuggets played this year. The Mavs have competed with the Nuggets and could have won two games this year against them. But I believe this will be the first time they will play a full roster Maverick playing team.

I think that means that Duncan is going to need more help now. But Ginoboli needs to stop playing in those off season tournaments. Pop said it best later year, we pay your bills, not Argentina.

The Mavs are just to fast for the Spurs. They need some young quick guys to match up.

Is that like you're "keeping it real" comments about this series before-hand? Even after it started you said that you couldn't see the Mavs winning this one in anything but 7.

Care to rephrase? And if I were you I might go ahead and take that sig down. Pretty embarrassing for Duncan to be taken to the woodshed by My Little Pony.

If we win game 1 at Denver than we will for sure win the series.

I hope we at least just split and take care of our home court.

i wouldnt say it would be a foregone conclusion, but it would be huge for their confidence and give them a great shot at stealing the series
