True enough about that part. Still, I think Witten and Schultz could create quite the chemistry.
I think Witten being around will make little difference to the positive for Dalton. With Witten gone, Dalton gets more snaps. He'll be great.

He'll only get from Witten the bantering that Martellus Bennett got from Witten... "high and tight". Witten has never been a hands on mentor to this TE room. Maybe that's how he keeps his job security while declining in performance every year. Witten can be a good example off the field but he's not going out of his way for any "tutelage", he never has.

That wasn’t Witten. It was John Garrett (or whatever Jason Garrett’s brother’s name is).

Oh that's right. Bennett did say something about Witten... "Witten didn't talk to me when I was in Dallas. He didn't help me," Martellus Bennett said on the program. "Very rarely did we talk. He didn't teach me nothing. He didn't help me out. There was times I asked him stuff and he'd be like, 'Figure it out.' I hated him. I hated Witten."

I think we got us a keeper.

I like what the QB Pitt got said "It's not Ben's job to teach me" or something like that. Besides I doubt Jason & Marty were buds off the field.

There’s a difference between Witten with 5 years left fighting for his spot and Witten in his final season looking to hand over the reigns. I know I’d treat a rookie very different if I was him.

I personally would like Rico to get a shot this year. His preseason play is more valuable than anything the other TEs have shown. I value preseason over college games. He played good in more than one game. He caught tight coverage passes and showed strong hands. Plus, he SCORED. He's also as big as some O-lineman. Give him a fair chance.

Preseason when teams run vanilla defenses.

I wouldn't be mad at a new more creative passing game
I think that is asking way too much! lol Dallas cant even get creative with the WRs much less the TE. It would take some kind of miracle for Garrett to start using Zeke like the Saints use Kamara. Zeke would be even a bigger weapon if LBs were forced to cover him.

In Dallas if your last name aint Witten your ridin the pine! It is so frustrating to have seen TEs come and go and they make one great catch on the field and then you never see them again! You wonder what could possibly be the reason for them not playing and all you hear from the Garrett or front office is they arent ready yet!

That's a philosophy thing with this staff. I wouldn't be mad at a new more creative passing game.
Think about this. James Hanna ran 4.49 and they never utilized him as a receiver. He was the 2nd best blocking te and they still didn't use his speed. 4.49 is faster than every receiver we've drafted in 10 years.

Fans need to get through their heads that running fast in a straight line at the combine does not = good football player. Hanna also had a whopping 53 catches in 3 years at Oklahoma. Maybe he’s just not a good football player? Same with Gavin Escobar. That doesn’t mean that every TE after them can’t succeed...with or without Witten. The talent evaluation portion of it needs to get a lot better. Thankfully I think Schultz is a heck of a lot more of a well rounded football than Hanna or Escobar were.

I was surprised that he showed more quickness than I was expecting in the limited videos I saw. Also looks like he has excellent hands.

Time will tell if he can be a factor 10 plus yards down the field on pass plays.

Not a ringing endorsement on his production, but their reasoning sounds believable. Blocking seems to be the primary skillset required to be a Cowboy TE.

Yes, by all means - Gronk is terrible at TE. Who’d want a guy like that? If we’re gonna go that route then throw Connor out there at TE so he can “block”.

I say that because I think Schultz will be a fine tight end for us. However, there's no better TE tutor in the league right now than Witten. If Witten decides to stick around for another season, Schultz couldn't be coming into a better situation.
he can tutor without being on the team ... IMO

but Hanna did produce when they would give him a chance. A darn good receiving threat wasted.
