Damien Wilson to start at SAM LB

This is good news. Gives him half the season to prove wether or not he can be a starter in this league. If he can, it would sure change how I feel about drafting a LB early next year and how the Cowboys can approach FA/draft in the off season.

I still want Cunningham from Vanderbilt BIG Dog that would give us Lee Wilson Nacho Smith Cunningham and Hitch I could live with the LB core

The only reason we should be taking a WR in our 1st 3 selection is if a guy falls to us that's projected to go far higher than in that 2nd or 3rd where he's available.

Throw in a LB in that draft and a 1 Tech in free agency like Hankins type player then we are well on our way on the d side of the ball

Why?

WR might be the top need.

TWilliiams is currently the #1 WR and he is a free agent.
Dez is not that good now and might not stay healthy anyway.
Butler is a free agent and has not done much.
Beasley is a slot WR, not at #1 outside guy.
Lucky is a gadget guy and backup slot guy.

Did you just say Williams is the number one receiver and Dez is not that good? Not sure if I'm reading correctly

I'm just assuming xwalker was on bath salts when he said that. Beasley is a better WR than Williams.

Agreed there has to be value there.

But as of right now both Williams & Butler could be leaving the team as free agents at the conclusion of this season.

Beasley is playing well as a Slot WR but he will never be anything more than a slot WR. If he had to play outside he would last a game or two until he was on IR.
He just has a blind spot for Dez and has to elevateTWill to compensate

They'll never spend an early pick on a DT... Especially a 1 technique DT.

And it's not really a position of need at this point.

He doesn't need me to speak for him but I don't think he is elevating TWill so much as saying he is the top WR with Dez out. Dez is an elite talent but he has 15 catches on the season, this team isn't 6-1 because of Dez averaging two catches per game.

No he hates Dez

Not sure why Wilbur and Gachkar are still on this team, we can upgrade with cheaper street free agents, maybe hit on another David Irving.

It's quite possible that their days could be numbered as soon as next year, when the offseason acquisitions make their bids for roster spots.

Then go LB in free agency? Or is it implicit in your post that Smith is ready to go, Mike? We need a splash signing in FA and to draft heavy D. This close, we need to be players in free agency, and if that means forgoing LB and going strong DL (DE) in draft and go after LB on the market, (or vice versa), then I'm game.

We need to re-sign Mo, Carr, and Church as well. (Sorry for taking the OP slightly off-course)
If they don't sign Church then sign Carr, he can play safety.

Wilson has replaced Kyle Wilber as the starter at Strong side OLB.......he will play mainly in the base D and be replaced by a DB when they go to Nickel which is over half the time......he has flashed some talent the last few games and if he can stick around it will solidify the LBer crew with another young player

This guy has really impressed me in the last couple of weeks. He has really taken advantage of his opportunity and fits into the mold of the young unheralded baller on D that just brings it every week. We have a few of those on Defense that really impress me.
