Not sure why Wilbur and Gachkar are still on this team, we can upgrade with cheaper street free agents, maybe hit on another David Irving.

I agree. At best these 2 are adequate backup SLBs who can play some STs. You would think that's among the easier positions to replace/upgrade with younger and cheaper players.

Better go revisit our free agency policy. We don't do "splash" any more.

Big Dog, I respectfully disagree.

In the recent past, yes, our teams were too far away from a championship-caliber team (sans 2014) to make a splash signing, and doing so would be futile, and, yet, for a while Jerry couldn't help himself. It often handcuffed us into contracts we didn't need and players that underperformed.

But when you have a bubble contender like we have now, in my opinion, you most certainly attack free agency, to a degree. Like NE did with Revis or DEN with Ware (just to give two recent examples). You see it in all sports. It is most definitely viable if done with calculation and precision. The best GMs, the elite GMs in all of sports, know when and who to jump on.

The problem for us, was we were making splash signings when we still had holes all over the dang boat and we were still sinking. Thus, a lot of fans, rightfully, soured on the prospect of a big-name free agent signing.

So yes, we need to revisit that free agency policy as it pertains to this current team. In the past I was against large money signings, not with this potential beast of a team. Hopefully our GM knows who to jump on and doesn't mess it up.

Of all the statements in this thread this one i love and i really believe it is about time we were able to say that ( the part bolded )!

I honestly cannot remember the last time as a cowboy's fan we all felt this way But i missed it for sure :grin:

We have chosen comp picks and extensions over big time FA.......this year we have big decisions on Claiborne, Church, TWill, Leary, Carr, Butler, Wilcox, JCrawford, TMcClain....

If it looks like we might get 4 draft picks we will wait in FA and shoot for values again.......but if we do we have to be more aggressive with cast-offs like Long, TPryor, Holmes that won't cost of draft picks

Of course if Jerry falls in love he may not be stopped but I don't see any big signings

We need to jump on a key acquisition for our defense if it presents itself, B. A smart, key acquisition.

I'm happy you came in here, B, I was curious of your perspective, brother. A little surprised, too. Thought you'd be about it :)

How did he play today? I only caught bits and pieces of the game.

Carr played fantastic. Very physical, made key tackles at the point of attack. A key PBU in the endzone. Blanketed his assignment all day. Was clearly our best CB and stepped up his game with Mo out. Both OScan and Brown struggled at times on the outside (OScan at first, then they kicked Brown out), but Carr, imo played his best game of the year, Syd.

Brown adjusted well, tho, after a few drives. OScan needs to stay in the slot, his initial burst is just too lacking for the outside. Brown was getting out-juked, gave up a TD on a nice route by his assignment, but he wasn't getting ran-by the way OScan was.
