They did it as soon as the plane landed. Really -- is this THAT big of a deal?
Of course it's not...but it gives some Cowboys fans some flawed info to hang onto in a quest to bash Snyder. "Ooooh, the EEEEvil Snyder fired Zorn at 4:00 am instead of at 12:30 pm the next day after a nice sleep and a hearty breakfast!! The *******!"

Zorn wanted to be told immediately because he didn't want to twist in the wind about it...so that's what they did. Would telling him before he got on the plane have been better? No. Would telling him in mid-flight have been better? No. Would waiting 2 1/2 days before telling him so that Dallas fans would think more highly of Snyder have been better? Hell, no. They already committed to Zorn being the coach throughout the rest of the season, so once they did that the earliest Snyder could have fired Zorn was after landing back in D.C. after the last game of the season. Zorn wanted to be told at the earliest possible moment after they made their decision, and he was. End of story.

Why? He got a ton of money, plus assaulting an owner would severely limit his future employment opportunities.

Actually, I think if somebody cold-cocked Danny Boy, it would IMPROVE his future employment opportunities-- once he got out of jail for battery...

Well he won't be GM...I like the idea of Allen and Shannahan working together though. I agree though -- if he does the player personnel AND the coaching? That never goes well...

Sonny, from what I've read today, that's exactly how it's gonna work-- Shanahan will have final say in personnel decisions...

It'll be interesting to see how that works out... for openers, I rather suspect that the only incumbent Skins offensive lineman that Shanny will have any interest in keeping around will be Rabach... at least, he's the only one who strikes me as fitting the coach's prototype for blockers...

For sure, Dockery doesn't...

We'll see how it works out...I am done getting more excited than a 15-year old the 1st time he sees a set of boobs every off-season.

Russel Okung and Justin Boren, if he comes out, fit the athletic quick, albiet smaller O-line (although Okung isn't small) that Shanny uses.

This is also one of the reasons I want to keep Campbell for a year or two. He's serviceable, he isn't the worst QB in the league. I wouldn't want to draft a QB and put him behind a miserable O-Line and give him the David Carr treatment. We have bigger fish to fry.

The Line needs to be rebuilt over all others.

A few thoughts here: for sure the line does need to be rebuilt and of course they need a QB;because IMHO Campbell doesn't fit what Shanny wants to do as he can't hit the broadside of a barn on a consistent basis. This will all take time......UNLESS, and this is what I want to run by you guys: the NFL really does have NO cap next year. This is the big reason Adam Schefter said Shanny wanted to go to DC......but Jerry Jones and others have said that won't happen because then it'll be like MLB and the competitive balance will be non existent. Can anyone in here speak intelligently to this as to whether this will REALLY happen or not? If so.........lil' Dan will get loose and the Skins could be winning in a few years........if not, they'll be lucky to win 8-9 games in 4 seasons as it will take that long to get a cohesive oline and QB in there to execute his system.

Mike and Mike just threw this tidbit out there: They said he's an excellent coach and a very good hire, but they threw the fact out that he won over 70% of his games and went 7-1 in the playoffs WITH Elway. He then won only 54% of his games and went 1-4 in the playoffs WITHOUT Elway. More importantly, NO super bowl winning coach that's come back to coach again has won a super bowl: the Tuna came close with the Pats , but he lost.

Wow, paragraphs are your friend :)

1) There will be no cap in 2010. That is pretty certain, the owners hate this deal. This does NOT mean though that Dan Snyder or Jerry Jones can go out and get every free agent, because the rules change. It now takes 6 seasons of play to become unrestricted. So the pool is much smaller then it would be if there was a cap

What this does allow though is to get rid of toxic players without worrying about the "cap hit" Guys like Portis for example

2) The whole "without Elway" argument is crap. Without Shanahan Elway did nothing, had 5-11 seasons and lost 2 Superbowls back to back. Without Brady, Bellicheck was a bum. Without Bellicheck, Parcells was a bum. This can go on and on

The point is, shanahan had an effective, comeptent team that could compete for playoff spots while in Denver, with or without Elway. Once you are in the playoffs, anything can happen

...be like any other NFL team. Without quality QB play it will be hard to win. Only a dominating scoring defence can buoy a team who has subpar QB performances.

Yup.

In the 21st century NFL you need outstanding QB play, which has been lacking in DC most of this decade

"We needed a guy like Mike Shanahan," cornerback DeAngelo Hall said. "We needed a proven leader, a proven winner. He's definitely going to get these guys motivated and get the most out of all of them."

What a backstabbing little turd this guy is. He didn't have the guts to say that **** to Zorn's face, but now that Zorn has left town, he's suddenly a tough guy. Drop dead.
