Dan Quinn or Sean Payton?

If Mike McCarthy is fired after this season, would you rather bring in Sean Payton or promote Dan Quinn to head coach?

DQ has totally transformed the Cowboys Defense so much so that regardless of how this season ends for the Cowboys, he's gonna be head coach somewhere. Part of me would rather it be here, even at the potential expense of potentially bringing in Sean Payton.

Thoughts?
Sean Payton as head coach, Quinn as DC… That is ideal, but probably not likely

If the Cowboys fire McCarthy they will do no better than go sideways with Quinn or Payton as HC. If that does become the case, I would prefer Quinn if he gets to choose his OC and Moore is out.

Back up the cash dump truck to keep Quinn as DC. No cap on coach contracts. MM does not warrant firing right now. Seems like we are on the verge of something here, so best not to rock the boat too much.

I'd say Quinn if it meant he could hire his own OC and play caller.

Sean is obviously a great NFL Coach with some skins on the wall, but I'm not interested in sending the Saints draft capital for him.

- if Quinn- he already has a rapport with the Jones and importantly Wil Clay,.. plus it would be a instant given we keep his defense.
Plus he is a great motivator and he's been in two teams in SB's, two or three SB season teams
The question would be will be let McClay run the NFL draft ship without interference, and chose his own OC than Jones insisting Kellen be kept.

- If Payton, i'd assume he wants his own offense vs keeping Kellen's offense. And that's the reason (along with Dak) that if this club pursues after him.
That would be an instant upgrade on offense. And Payton has been to and won a SB.
* the big differences is..
1) this has to be Payton's offense, Not kellen's ..this was never McCarthy's offense.
2) would Sean bump heads with Wil McClay in player personnel and the draft ? ,
3) he already knows the Jones, but as HC would he able to accept the Jones meddling ?
4) .we'd have to give up premium draft picks for Payton, . me ? i really do not want give up top picks for a HC.
5) DC may be a problem if Quinn departs to HC, Payton has had his struggles finding DC's aside from Gregg Williams and Dennis Allen
Rob Ryan had one lone good season and it was downhill afterwards

One Super Bowl appearance in 15 seasons with Drew Brees as his QB. He’s Jason Garrett minus the ginger mop!

Well, let's unpack some additional info.

  • He suffered 1 of the most heinous officiating screw over's of all time
  • He suffered 1 of the most egregious walk off defeats in NFL history
  • Very few teams have more than one SB appearance in their window. It's not easy.
  • At least he had the good sense to understand Bree's abilities & use them.
  • He turned a perpetual losing franchise into a consistent winner
  • As many are fond of saying, its a team game.
Jason Garrett never did any of that.

Woulda, shoulda, coulda, one SB appearance in 15 seasons with Drew Brees as his QB. And he had Brees because he lost the bidding war for Dante Culpepper to Miami!

The premise is faulty. Mike McCarthy isn't getting fired.

I have always heard he is family close to the Jones family and that would not be a problem.

I'm not sure being close to Jerry might not make it a bigger problem. After 30+ years there should be no expectation that Jerry will cede the control and spotlight that has always been so important to him, and because they are close Payton may prefer not to strain the relationship by butting heads with Jerry over this

Quinn, i wouldn't want a coach that should've been banned for life for his conduct.

Quinn has been great, but its leaders and studs like Diggs and Parsons that have transformed the defense. Now granted Quinn has been a big part of choosing his guys and has revamped the safety position.

The truth is that any other good DC will be fine with this group.

Payton is the real prize. Payton is the guy we need running this franchise and team.

Why do you guys want Mike Mccarthy fired so bad? Sean Payton isn't Bill Belichik or Andy Reid, Mike Mccarthy and him are on the same level.
