I'm not sure it's as outrageous as people want to make it out to be. The current top AAV is $50MM so the 40-45MM is still under top QB money for a new contract, and after seeing potential new deals from Herbert, Burrow, Jackson, Hertz this offseason $45M is probably going to look like the new $35M with $50M being the new floor and a new top AAV should get set in the mid 50s.

Wow. He had a decent year but 45M? I hope the Giants give it to him b/c then they will be in our boat....... struggling to collect enough talent to make a playoff run.
It's the cost of business with QBs who are perceived as good or better and make it to their 2nd contract. He may not get 45, but I believe his AAV will be b/t 40-45. What fans believe is deserved or not is irrelevant. It's all market driven.

Danny Dimes, the one being laughed at for years, has a descent season, and now wants the big bucks...Pure laughable!

But guys like him and Dak are not elite enough to build a team around that have a real chance at a super bowl. I much prefer the way the Niners and Eagles have built there teams going with rookie contracts at QB and loading the rest of the roster.

This is utterly ridiculous. Paying players just because others are getting paid that instead of paying for talent and production. This is the most stuipidest thing the NFL has ever done.

Unlike Jerry they'll tell him to take a hike, then lower their offer

What would Danny get on the open market? My guess would be maybe 30. Maybe. I don't believe he's all that respected around the NFL as far as talent. Which team would give him big money?

I thought Geno had an incredible year. Really, he looked amazing. Is it a fluke year or did he just have outstanding weapons? I thought he passed the ball really well.
The question is whether he’s Jim Plunkett or Joe Flacco. But it’s also experience and situation. The later is the hardest thing to determine since these guys don’t play in a vacuum.

He was good all year. But again qbs need to be surrounded by talent. Most don’t understand this.

Todd France left CAA to go to Athletes First... I wouldn't be surprised if France is his agent. If France can get Dak that type of contract for accomplishing jack squat, coming off a broken leg with a no-trade cause with Dak's 7 TOs in 5 games and nothing but garbage-time stats with a top-tier OL and RG, dude is the GOAT of sports agents.

Bums like Brock Osweiler got paid huge and it happens all of the time. Someone will overpay.

Dak on that Giants team would be out of the league already. Their OL has been garbage and much of DJs value apparently in the usage of his legs, while Dak is really just a bulky runner that out-muscles guys in his prime, meaning he would have taken a lot of beatings. Daniel Jones played one year under Garrett calling the plays and that alone should count for about 20 million dollars for the trauma it must have caused, let alone how much he must have had to unlearn.

It’s amazing how fans expect players to take friendly deals rather than maximizing on their generational wealth. Only reason dudes like Mahomes have incentive otherwise is because they know they have a potential legacy to build so it makes sense to shave off a little bit of money in exchange for that
As one of Dak's biggest critics, that's one thing I never agreed with, that he should just be cheap. If I were in his shoes, I'd do the same exact thing as he did. In this case, I simply thought JJ was dumb for the contract.

No one is saying Dak should be cheap.

Id rathe pay Carr 55 than Jones 45
But why?? Carr has been in the league for almost 10 years an 0-1 playoff record. Almost 10 years in the league and only ONE playoff appearance.....

Jones already won his first playoff game but you'd be willing to pay Carr more. Please explain this logic.

I personally wouldn't take any discount. That's how we all negotiate for jobs. As Dak said when they asked him if he would take a hometown discount, he basically said that gambling revenues are going to be part of the pot, so teams can afford the higher salaries. Facts are salary cap is just an imaginary number and we don't have any access to the books of teams. Owners are paying, because they have the money.

They even get money from the DOD to advertise for the military, while claiming they are patriots. If you were a patriot, why are you taking money from the military? Just like they get tax-payers to fund new stadiums and if they don't they just bounce the team to a new city. Then they expect the players to take a "hometown" discount. F outta here with that crocodile tear nonsense.

Because in spite of only 1 playoff appearance that is a direct result of a crappy organization with a defense that has pretty consistently been in the bottom tier of the league in terms of rankings, Carr has shown he has the ability to win if but for a crappy defense.
