There's another thread about Danny floating around..... Just because he wasn't shown a lot in episode one doesn't mean he's not going to be a main story.....D Ware about 30 maybe 40 can't get enough of the man (no homo) but honestly this guy is being hyped a lot.
Obviously the "hype" is being exaggerated. Regardless, you expect hype for our most impressive rookie. This one just happens to have not been drafted. If he was a 5th rounder, no one would question it.

people forget a player like Marcus Colston slipped all the way to the 7th round

good players sometimes just happen to slip far in the draft

none the less im excited to see him in action tonight

fans always tend to root for the underdog, the odds were def stacked against the kid, lets see if he can take advantage

Romo plays less then a quarter & Brad plays nlt then 2nd quarter. TO, Witten, MBIII, Felix & Cratyon will go out with Romo as do our defensive starters. Some members of our starting OL may stick around to help Johnson a little but then it's up to Bartel & that Terrent (sp?) kid. I don't care if we win or not just so long as our starters on both sides of the ball look good and nobody gets hurt. Hopefully some of the young vets like Carpenter, Johnson, Hurd & Austin step it up in the 2nd quarters. The whole 2nd half can be belong to the backups, some of whom could be on the bubble, and the rookies. I just want coaching staff to get a real good look at every backup player & all the rookies. While no starter position is in trouble, if a few of the young vets & some of the rookies really step it up we could be surprised by how the bottom of the roster can change. Drills in practice are one thing, putting on the pads & helmet in a game where everyone is really blocking & tackling is something else. Who knows what could happen at the bottom of the roster & also on PS. This game along with the 2nd and the last game is the chance for the backups and rookies to strut their stuff. It's not outside the realm of possibility that a few of the rookies who've shown little to date begin to shine in this game. Good play by some and guys like Bowen, etc could become bubble players.

"good players just happened to slip" in the draft. heck, you don't have to tell Cowboy fans. We got a 2 time pro bowl QB that slipped out of the draft. BTW: Colston was the WR I desperately wanted the Cowboys to draft late but it didn't happen.

Well, let's see, (1) he was very productive in his final year in college (over 100 catches), (2) he's extremely quick (6.8 3-cone), (3) he came here and impressed in rookie mini-camps, and (4) carried on with impressive performances throughout training camp, receiving praise from coaches, media, and our very talented corners.

Really, what more could you ask for from an undrafted player up to this point?

Now theogt, you know some people can't get past his undrafted status. They are still expecting Romo to fail. He has to, since he was undrafted! Draft snobs are draft snobs.

The reason for the hype has to be the Wes Welker comparison.

Since he was drafted it only took one idiot to say:

"What do the NE Pats have that we don't" , oh thats right Wes Welker. Well since Danny looks like him, and wants to play the slot, lets go ahead and now quickly compare him to him. While we're at it, Stanback has dreads, he must be the next Dante Stallworth. These comparisons are ridiculous. We have a QB turning into a WR that everyone has high hopes for only because our depth at WR sucks, and then we have someone who reminds us of Wes Welker because his teammates speak well of him, and yet neither have played a down!!! LOL.

I guarentee if Danny catches 3 balls for 25 yards and 1 TD, the bandwagon will continue to grow, I don't even want to start with Stanback if he catches one pass, he will have excellent hands.

The point is its still preseason, and I truely think that we all on the back of our minds are worried about our WR depth. We all saw what happened when TO went down, but this year at least we have TG right.. oh.. no.. nvm

Honestly?

I think at this point, I'd suggest that more of this 'hype' is generated by those that 'dislike' him. Whole threads on this forum are hijacked by those oh-so witty Amendola > Chuck Norris jokes...or the equally witty HOF references.

Most of the people that like the kid are fairly level headed about it...while remaining optimistic.

Damn, that was good.................El Nailo

No you wouldn't. You'd just have 1 less excuse to dislike him.

All the "fed-up with Amendola hype" folks sling that around when in actuality it weakens their complaint.

He only gets the hype from the people who complain about the hype.

I'm not sold on Amendola helping this version of the Dallas Cowboys, but I have my reasons. With all the hype he is getting, and it is hype, it is hard not to have a little fun with it. He had a good camp, but imo, Felix Jones was the rookie star of the camp on offense. Why am I not sold on Amendola's value to Dallas' offense?

First, Patrick Crayton really flourishes inside or in the slot. That is how he earned his money. According to Vela, Crayton doesn't do as well against the top corners in the league. Really good corners can man him up on the outside without much of a problem. This allows the defense to double or triple Owens. If Sam Hurd can come through and take that number 2 position, Crayton can do his damage inside on third down. The problem is this: Does Hurd have the speed to stretch the field and beat the really good corners? Is he just another version of Crayton? Finally, is Amendola just a slot receiver or a possession guy? If he is, I don't see his value. How is he going to ever get on the field? I don't see him returning punts or kickoffs, either.

Second, I still think there is a chance that another receiver could be traded for before it is all said and done. Plus, you can't rule out Terry Glenn being resigned.

The loser of the Robert Meachem vs Devrey Henderson match for the third WR in New Orleans could be a target. Meachem should win that battle, and Henderson will probably be dealt. He's had some drop issues, but Henderson's 2006 YPC was around 23 yards. He is a deep threat. Sooner or later, that number 2 option at WR must stretch the field. Henderson, a former LSU player, does have some skins on his wall.

If I was Jerry Jones, and I'm not, I would put a package together and try to get Meachem. It wouldn't hurt to try. Let them reject the trade.

Again, I would offer this package:

Henry
Carpenter
Austin
Third Round Pick

New Orleans could use a veteran corner and a linebacker. Austin gives them young legs and speed, and the draft pick is thrown in to get them to bite.

I know some people will think I'm crazy, but it is just my opinion. It is a dream trade, but Meachem would be worth it in spades. It would give us the future number one and help now. Plus, it would allow me to promote Hurd to Crayton's role and deal Crayton in 2009. You can dream.

All that for Meachem? You're not crazy, you're nuts!

Besides, Meachem needs to prove he can stay healthy.

Good god. How lame can you possibly be.

A good kid overplays his potential, fights the odds, and continues to catch the eye of football coaches....and fans dislike him for it. Pathetic.

How has he overplayed his potential? He hasn't stepped foot on an NFL field, let alone had a full contact practice.

Get your mind right, the kid is an undrafted, over-rated, receiver from Texas Tech.
