Whether you agree or disagree with his sentiments, I think it's refreshing the ex-Cowboys are finally opining on the state of the Cowboys. In my opinion they've been too quiet over the years. It's going to take a village to fix this thing. Time for Roger to apply some pressure.

Now there's a couple of losers to draw to............LOL!!!! I can still see White BLOWING the game against the 9ers even with enough time on the clock to beat the 9ers after Dwight Clark made THE CATCH. Made me sick to watch the Cowboy's last series in that game, hell it makes me sick to even think about it now!

Aikman is the Gold standard in my View. Roger is well, Roger. Super Hero Status. Put us on the map.
Meredith shouldn’t be far behind. He was after all 1st Cowboys QB inducted into ROH. White held most of the Cowboys passing records until Romo came along.

Yeah, former cowboys always come out and bad mouth the current cowboy quarterback.
I've seen it many times oh, wait, like never.

Danny's play was inconsistent too.

Bill Walsh obviously thought alot of Danny White. He was handpicked by Bill to help him coach up Jake Plummer at his QB camp in Arizona. It was Danny, Bill Walsh and Jake Plummer. Jake when he was playing for Denver. Had just been traded there by the Cards, so he still maintained a home in Arizona. I didn't get to talk to Bill or Jake but Danny was a down to earth dude. No ego. The great Bill Walsh had much respect for Danny obviously, so much so, he was his QB coach for Plummer. Anyone throwing shade on Danny is either being coy or just ignorant.

Sure, he had off games, especially when he got banged up at the last couple years of his career, just before Jerry bought the team. He had nearly no talent around him at that point. The team had been circling the drain since about 86-1989. Every QB has inconsistencies at times. but he was solid when he had a decent team around him and wasn't banged up.

Great point! We can't forget him. If I am honest, he really started it all, put us on the map, then Roger took the baton and elevated us ,then he handed the baton to Danny, and he did pretty dang well following a legend like Roger and Dandy Don. Think about the pressure Danny may have had on him to achieve greatness. But he never showed it. I guess thats Tom Landry keeping everything on an even keel.

Yea , Danny came up short but once he went down in 1986 Landry never sniffed the playoffs again with 3 consecutive losing seasons to end his legendary career.

Danny White is 1,000,000,000,000% correct!!!

This is exactly how many ex-Cowboys see it, along with so many fans and myself. The one thing Dak needs to do to help himself and the team is to give the team a discount on his now 2nd big contract. If Dak does that, it would help the Cowboys front office to be able to add better weapons around Dak and this team which definitely would help in the playoffs.

well as they should, because when dak has bad games it's NEVER just his fault, dak is free from being criticized
OMG….I‘ve never seen a Cowboys player ever, going back to the 60’s criticized as much as Dak.
Like most NFL QBs, he is not a super star who can carry the team on his back in big games. He needs receivers (got 2 finally); he needs protection (poor when the depth is tested, but pretty good most of the time); he needs a run game (non existent this past season); he needs a defense that can keep the game close at times (a big weakness against the better teams this season). Dak can be part of a SB champion.

Roger Staubach won SBs with a HOF RB, HOF wideout, great OL, and a Doomsday defense.
Troy Aikman won SBs with a HOF RB, HOF wideout, great OL, and another Doomsday defense.

Roger and Troy were both better than Dak. There’s no arguing that fact, but can you imagine either of them winning against the top teams in their playoff runs if they had no running game and had to pass 35-40 times or more because their defense couldn’t stop the better teams from running up and down the field?

This team is close. There are better QBs in the NFL than Dak, but I don’t see them winning a SB this past season with the offense and defense we ran out there.

Time of possession is critical in the playoffs against good teams. The defense has to get off the field and keep the score close. The run game keeps the offense balanced and opposing defenses honest. We don’t need super stars at every position, but we must have a Run game, and we must have a better, more physical defense. Both of those areas can be improved greatly with just a few free agent moves.

I liked Danny, better than Romo. But he was inconsistent off and on throughout the 80s.

In my experience, I’d rather see the secondary give up a big pass TD every week than let teams run their way from bad field position or have the defense always bending, trying not to break. Give up a fast easy TD, at least the offense is back on the field, and the defense isn’t tired and demoralized from being ground down. The goal of every defensive coach ever has been to make an offense one dimensional. That way at least you know what’s coming. All the good teams made Dallas completely 1 dimensional, had no fear at all that we could run with any consistency. Our defense seldom made any offense one dimensional.

Even before Quinn, we were running a bend but don’t break defense. I hate it. Try to even remember the last time our punt team pinned a team inside the 10 and we got a 3 and out, giving our offense the ball at the 40 or 50. We have an excellent punter who does his job a lot, but pinned down when an offense is somewhat cautious, we still cannot get off the field until they are around midfield and we are praying to make them punt or hold them to 3.
