Hey guys been working on the draft a lot these last couple weeks. Getting an idea of what we need, and what is available. This will be a mix of free agency and draft picks.

This offseason prediction is not only what I think we WILL do, but also what I think we SHOULD do. If we do or follow something close to this, I honestly think we can take that next step.

Re-Sign

Dez Bryant
Doug Free
Rolando McClain
Justin Durant
Dwayne Harris

Tender

Ron Leary
Cole Beasley
Chris Jones

Free Agent Signings

Adrien Peterson RB (I honestly don't believe his cost is going to be that much. 3 year 15 million dollar deal somewhere around there with 10 million guaranteed. I think he really wants to play for Cowboys)

Stephen Paea DT (1 tech only 26. Past experience with Marinelli. Big upgrade over Hayden. Can generate pass rush and play run. Extremely strong)

Brandon Graham DE (Playing out of position for Eagles. Would be ideal LDE in our system. Big upgrade from Spencer/Selvie combination. Has a knock for rushing the passer and is also only 26)

Draft

1st Rd: Nate Orchard DE - An ideal RDE who can compete with Lawrence for that starting spot in camp. Or Orchard can start at RDE and Lawrence LDE. Orchard has more quick twitch then Lawrence and can certainly rush the passer. Lawrence is stouter and stronger at the point of attack.

2nd Rd: Preston Smith Miss St - DE/DT - I LOVE this guy at 3 tech. He played all over the line at Miss St, but I feel his best position is at 3 tech. He could put on 10 lbs or so, but he would be an excellent rotational player with Crawford. They can both rush in nickel situations. He is an outstanding pass rusher.

3rd Rd: Josh Shaw USC CB

4th Rd: Austin Shepherd Alabama OT

5th Rd: Jalston Fowler Alabama FB

7th Rd: Tevin McDonald FS Eastern Washington

7th Rd: Jarvis Harrison OG Texas A&M

Looks very reasonable; although, I'm not a big fan a Paea. I reviewed him the the Cowboys-Bears game and he was fairly easily pushed around.

Graham might be the most realistic option for a pass rusher. The Eagles might cut Trent Cole and offer to make Graham the starter; although, I read that he prefers a 4-3.

My top choice is Hardy if he is acquitted, but the price might be too high.

I need to review Austin Shepherd. I like the other drat picks.

I would sign Parnell over Free. Free had ankle surgeries in both Jan 2014 and Jan 2015. Parnell played well considering he had 1 career start prior to this season.

You lost me with the 2 Bama boys picks...but 4th and 5th round picks is kind of nitpicking.

CB positio would also be unclear. Carr can't come back at his full price tag so there could be some uncertainty there as well. I don't mind Shaw, but I think he's more of a FS project for us

Those later picks were just positions in need. Haven't done a lot of watching those guys. Don't read too much into that. I agree about Carr, I was going to add that in but decided I don't need to put that

I don't like the idea of paying 5 mil/year for a 30 year old RB who hasn't played in a year and tore his ACL not to long ago (not to mention had under 1,300 yards his last full season).

Your underestimating Adrian Peterson. He's never had an elite QB or offensive line. (Minus an old Brett Favre) He still averaged 4.5 yards a carry last year and had 10 tds. Give him our offensive line with his breakaway speed, it could be even better then what we had last year.

To do what he's done with offenses specifically game planning for him, and him only on that offense its been dang impressive. He's defied all logic when it comes to health and his body. I certainly wouldn't bet against him. I'm NEVER in favor of old running backs. But the norm is not the norm with Peterson. He's a rare rare breed. Total outlier.

Resignings are a little short. Guys like Weems and Spillman and Clutts are role players for this team and will be really cheap. I can see Harris moving on.

I think Dallas resigns Beasley to a multi yr deal cheaper yearly then the 2.1mil he would cost.

Stephen Paea has history with Marinelli but he is bad vs the run. Marinelli would sub in Okoye vs the run in alot of occassions.
Zimmer has said Peterson isnt going anywhere. They seem to have found theyre QB, AP would make life easier for him.

Broaddus talked about Orchard saying Coaches and scouts wanted to see Orchard as a LBer rather then with his hand on the ground. Said he looked fluid and thats probably his posistion. He is too light IMO to play DE. It took Lawrence more than half the season to gain some weight, but still looked small compared to the rest of Dallas DEs. Nomore tweeners.

Preston Smith will not go in the 2nd round. Probably could be had when Dallas picks in the 3rd. But IMO bad pick as Dallas has Crawford and mcClain manning the 3tech. Waste of a pick for a guy who will get minimal snaps at a posistion.

Like the Josh shaw pick hes going to be a player for somebody. But he too can be had later. Would take Gunter in RD3. Shaw will probably be a 4-5RD guy

You think all of this. For 1, he isn't even a free agent, and if all of what you say is true, do you really think Minnesota is going to let him go anywhere for free? Beyond that he still hasn't played in a year, and the last time he did play he was somewhat above average. Yea teams were game planning for him... but he still wasn't what he once was and if he somehow is, Minnesota will hold on to him as tightly as possible.

Great OP from Dan. Terrific overall but my nitpicks are that I do think Murray comes back and I don't think we really need a DT in FA. I'd be fine with Graham (even better with Greg Hardy) and would love Orchard with out #1.

AIso I don't see the team giving Chris Jones the 1.5MM tender, I think they will just do the same replacement with tryouts that they always do.

Disagree with almost everything you said. Your ok with the most important position on this defense being occupied by two guys who never stayed healthy an entire nfl season, or played more then 30 snaps in a game consistently?

Clearly you didn't see the pass rush much this year. Having two guys being able to rush the passer from the interior in nickel is crucial. You really want that being Crawford and McClain all year? Sorry I saw that last year. I love Crawford but he needs help. Look at what Detroit did with their line. They had 4 guys that could rush passer inside.

Clearly i did, the interior was not the problem. The problem was Dallas had nothing coming off the edge playing the zone. Playing the man they played their butts off. I think thats more where Marinelli will going this yr. I understand Paea being on your mind. But playing the 1tech the guy will be a liability vs the run. If i want a 1tech in FA im going after Fairley or Chris Peters. Think Marinelli has plans for Bishop, Whaley and even Gardner on some downs inside. I just dont see how people want to make this big issue about the inside when 12.5 of Dallas 28 sacks came from the interior and 9 came from DEs.

I love all the attention you are giving the DL.

That is making a bold statement but one that needs made to get our defense championship worthy again.

Love the defensive FA signings and pretty comfortable with that draft.

Would like to see more depth at LB. This team seems cursed at the position and you're counting on three health mysteries in Lee, Durant and Ro.

Not sure about AP, think I'd rather keep Demarco.

We need more pass rush across the DL and with depth. Can't just add one DE and think you are done. That's old Jerry.

Yet he fumbles at a greater percentager than Murray. He will be 31 in about a month. He has been in the league 8 years to Murray's four, yet he has more than twice Murray's carries. For this nsite to wonder about Murray and his decilne due to work load, and then offer up a guy who has worked more and in 8 years in the league only completed three of them by playing all 16 games is laughable.

Can't disagree with OP too much.
However I wish people would stop with the Peterson stuff. He is not available yet, and probably won't be IMO.
But it is their choice to do so. If Murray is not signed, then I prefer to draft a QB.

I wouldn't mind if Carter was brought back either.
Draft seems very reasonable, but I haven't looked at it in too much depth yet. But also I'm not a draft guru so I like to see this kind of stuff to get a feel for what others think. But from what I seen so far, this is good.

Love the ideas...not a fan of signing age outside of Free and Adrian Peterson. That leads me directly to Justin Durant. He is a serviceable player but not a guy I re-sign until after the draft. He played well in spurts but not better than Bruce Carter. Why? He didn't make more "catalytic" plays than Carter even at his very best. So...he isn't more athletic, he doesn't make more big plays, he is older, he is more injury prone....equals...I make Carter a priority to re-sign only behind Dez, and Murray. I rank him equal to Ro McClain (meaning tied at #3) for players Dallas should bring back for 2015.

If Carter doesn't get re-signed then Dallas should draft his replacement and let him compete with Durant IF Durant is still available after the draft.

Very solid offseason. If this happens i would prefer we play Smith more as a swing RDE/DT. Lawrence, Orchard, and Graham would all be pass rush specialist and in that case i would like to see Smith in the DE rotation with Mincey adding another run defender
