Darren Woodson finds out if he gets elected into HOF tonight *Not Elected*

He doesn’t deserve to be in. He was good but not HOF good, but there’s a lot of players in the HOF that were not HOF good.
It’s a popularity thing
I think Woodson is borderline.

Totally agree that many players in the hall were not true difference makers.

It’s the easiest HOF to get into with baseball being the hardest.

Just the latest example why I am a long-time proponent of voting transparency. A finalist must receive 80% of the Board of Selectors' vote, so I am in favor of the Hall publishing either:
  1. transcript of the pro- and con- arguments made for each finalist (video of the meetings would be preferable) or
  2. an overall ballot displaying each Selector's yea or nay vote or
  3. both
I would choose #1 if there was only one option available. Then it would settle my curiosity concerning each Selector's argument or counterargument for enshrinement. These guys have complete autonomy over who gets in or remains barred from the Professional Football Hall of Fame. Selfishly, let me know what these people are thinking if-and-when candidates make it through three freaking preliminary discussion rounds just for the rare CHANCE of making the Hall.

I would more prefer transcripts and/or vote data of all four discussion rounds but that might be too greedy, although I do not think it is. It would be welcomed if individuals, on the outside of these deliberations, can find out if their thoughts on which candidate should get in and why, match or do not match the thoughts of folks who are the Hall's actual gatekeepers.

Whats your opinion on John Lynch and Steve Atwater getting in? The gatekeeper was John Lynch imo.
I didn't really see much of Steve's career but with John Lynch there was two things in my opinion that got him over the hump

1. His super bowl team wasn't overshadowed by the offense, if anything it was the complete opposite. I would wager at least 80% of the people who watched that super bowl could not tell you who the starting quarterback or the starting running back was for Tampa. If you think about it that's actually insane, that might be the only super bowl winning team in the 2000s in which you can say that. Woody it was the opposite, the super bowl teams all everybody talks about is the Great Wall of Dallas and the triplets.

2. Lynch stayed relevant post career which kept him in the public eye. Within like 9 or 10 weeks of his retirement he joins Fox as a commentator for almost a decade and then he became a GM. I also don't think it was a coincidence that the year his team went to the super bowl and he won the award for executive of the year his name got called by Canton the very next cycle.

"The Great Wall" has one member in the HOF, Larry Allen. Larry Allen only has one ring, the last Super Bowl of the 90s teams.

He had 3 less INTs than Lynch. He also had 2 fewer sacks and 4 fewer forced fumbles. Lynch had 88 more solo tackles. Despite having an average QB, Tampa won the SB because of their great defense and Lynch was a big part of it.
So in your mind it’s enough to keep him out? Seems pretty close to me, but you do you budd.

Didn’t lynch play one more year than Woodson?

It’s close but a lot of it comes down to the players you have to compete with for the HOF each year. Lynch played 3 more seasons. Having a longer career can also help a player get in the HOF.

Lynch played a lot of robber to get those interceptions and still only has 3 more interceptions. Woodson was the better player. He was way more talented and valuable to his defense by being able to play man in the slot on 3rd downs and not just a run stopping and help coverage safety.

Although I’m a Cowboys fan I’m objective and it’s hard to say who was better. The Cowboys had the number one defense in 92 but Woody who was a rookie only started 2 games that season. The 02 Bucs defense that won the SB was one of the best ever and Lynch was a big part of it.

Y'all Woody was good but the guys who got in this year... objectively a cut above

Woody was great for the team, but he's not an NFL Hall of Famer.

Darren Woodson: 178 games, 184 solo tackles, 41 assists, 11.0 sacks, 11 fumble recoveries and 23 interceptions.
Merton Hanks: 137 games, 280 solo tackles, 48 assists, 3 sacks, 10 fumble recoveries and 33 interceptions

Nobody's clamoring for Merton Hanks to be in the HoF and he had similar numbers in fewer games.

I forgot about that - how is that possible?
Same as the travesties that happen at the rock and roll HOF,,, business, politics, bargaining, things that shouldn't have anything to do with the selections end up electing lesser-thans instead of the people that deserve it.

Williams, Mark, and Newton are all 3 in that "Hall of very good tier"

Williams if he didn't have the car accident would have 100% been in Canton. Newton and Stepnoski I wouldn't be shocked if one of them eventually made it in as a senior candidate (Mark is all decade team and Newton is 6x pro bowl 2x all pro)

That's how the cookie crumble sometimes. One of them had a severe injury and the other two play a position that's arguably the hardest of the main positions to get enshrined. It's no knock on the Great Wall they were great

Woody was Elite. The Hof ought to be ashamed of themselves. They must despise Dallas or Jerry.

Woodson needs a very powerful sponsor to help boost him in the HOF.

Drew Pearson had to literally Cry his way into HOF, as it took him several decades at age 70, before he was finally taken serious

Someone like Rick Goose Gosselin ..maybe even Michael Irvin would have to woof his vocals on a frequent basis to help get woody in ...
