I just realized 'cowboyjoe' is the guy that used to start all the "Hey guys my friend Larry thinks...." threads.

For some reason those always made me laugh.

Does anyone have suggestions who we could go after in FA for the NT position?

I'm guessing he'll be expensive though.

Isn't he the one that came in CZ in a Panic screaming for Hos?

A behemoth nose tackle who would collapse the middle and provide face pressure to a passer would be ideal, IMO. Dallas has edge rushers. A dominant nose would help guys like Ware; stepping up in the pocket could become difficult for a quarterback.

An interior presence like that would also give us more options with our safeties, allowing them to play more in coverage. Eight in the box would be more of a wrinkle than a staple.

Speaking of safeties, more range at the position would be great. Everyone craves the ballhawk, especially in this pass-happy league.

Dallas has just about the best perimeter rush man in the bidness. They have some good corners. Those are the big-ticket items. This defensive unit isn't dominant, but the addition of certain complementary pieces could get it there.

You want a nose tackle that can get more interior pressure than Jay Ratliff?

More than sacks, the ability to collapse and push the pocket would be something I would definitely like.

Personally, I would like to see Rat work some more outside. I believe his versatility is extremely valuable. That's not to say he shouldn't get some snaps at nose, too. He absolutely should.

Get a big huge NT

get a safety that can play and stay healthy.
Those are great ideas but that won't solve the O-line issues of 2008.

I don't think we're going to have much chance of getting someone who can collapse the pocket more than Ratliff. The "big nosetackle" argument is about getting someone who can hold the LOS against a double team run up the middle, not about collapsing the pocket. Ratliff made the pro bowl off his ability to collapse the pocket.

Given the Tank will probably move on, there will definitely be a space for a another NT.

Any ideas of potential FAs available?
This is even something Ray Lewis was complaining about until Haloti Ngata came to town. So I completely agree.

Not so much. Rat is not a down lineman who gets a big interior push. Is he exceptional at beating blocks, taking advantage of that first step? Sure.

It is about more than a "double team run up the middle." That's only a part of the equation. Taking some of the plays and not allowing opposing passers a clean pocket is more the issue.

If nothing else, acquiring another quality performer there to limit Jay's snaps would be fine. It would only enhance the quality of play up front. I would not necessarily be resigned in thinking we could not land that type of performer.

just my point, look at the dominating defenses, either 4-3 or 3-4, they had a dominating DT or NT

cowboys in 90;s Leon Lett
bears with wiliam the refrigerator
ravens with 2 big DTS
and just like a guy said, the ravens got Hatolai, and he helped keep the offensive linemen off of Ray Lewis,

and if darren woodson whom happens to have played the pro football game, said this team needs a big NT to keep offensive linemen off of middle linebackers and that the cowboys also need to go get another linebacker if zach thomas leaves,

then yesssssssss, this team need a dominating big huge NT

that will allow the defensive ends and ware to pressure the QB and runners, because with that big NT you cant run up the middle

now there are 2 big NTs coming out of boston college,

and a few more, I would draft one, let ratliff play NT some, along with letting ratliff play some DE

this would also help out the safeties in run support

We have a pro bowler playing NT dont be ridiculous

Just wondering if you ever come up with original ideas, or is it just what you hear someone else say?

Again we tried Ratliff at DE it was not a fit and he said he did not want to play there
