David Carr thinks Romo should wait until he's 100%

Depends on our record and I think Romo would agree.

Romo wants desperately to get back on the field as soon as possible or he might never get his job back. The "Dak attack" is becoming a theme around the league and Romo sees it and he can't possibly be thrilled about it. He's an aging, injury prone QB watching a young gun who may take his job.

"I also know he absolutely should not return until his back is fully healed, no matter how good he feels."
Thats good advice, and if Tony really wants to play another 3-5 years he should not come back this season, give it a year to heal.
The other injury from last year hasnt even healed a full year yet.
that way he could be fully healed, and feeling great, for next year, and just work on getting in better shape.

With our defense, I dont think it is worth coming back this year, Dallas isnt a SB team with Tony or Dak at this point.
If they draft defense and maybe get some players in FA next year would be maybe a better chance with better defense.

Let Dak throw a TD and become a playmaker before we bench Romo for him.

Exactly. Every injury is different and Carr's problems throwing could have been related to the myriad other problems he had with being an NFL QB.
Besides, it sounds like it already is not a problem for Tony.

lol...an observer? I gotta ask, why would Romo even be throwing if he is injured and not dressed?

I haven't benched Romo, I'm just saying if Dak continues to improve, meaning he's going to have to start throwing some TD's and the Cowboys are winning games with him they aren't likely to pull him for Romo regardless if he's healthy and ready to play. Romo is in a tough spot right now, standing on the sidelines for a second straight season out multiple games battling another injury and having to watch the first real challenger to his job in 10 years play well and get their first win. Obviously Romo will look supportive of Dak but deep down it's got to be killing him. He knows the longer Dak is out there the better he'll get which will make it more difficult for Romo to get his job back.

He also knows the fanbase is excited about this kid. We're starting to see what "appears" to be a changing of the guard at QB and Romo isn't naive not to know where this is probably headed if Dak continues to develop. For an aging veteran QB to stand on the sidelines having to basically pretend to be excited about the play of their rookie backup isn't easy. I've seen interviews with several former NFL QBs discussing this very situation and how difficult it is having to cheer on a QB who's in the process of taking their job. This a difficult time for Romo especially considering he never achieved his goal of winning a SB.

It's well-known he threw around 15-20 passes before the game last week. I don't know there's a reason. Keep in mind Garrett himself also throws before games.

What you say is valid...as an additional glimpse, I don't want him to overnight become a mad bomber to met a stereotype as well. That would push him also, into troubles with increased interceptions. Granted, there has to be some challenge added to a vertical game.

Nobody has been benched. However, Dak put us in position to win in the first one, and won us the 2nd one in his 1st 2 starts of his career. All without throwing 1 TD. Pretty impressive if you ask me.

What happens when he does start throwing TD's is the real question.

There might be some fire with all the smoke

Josh McCown just broke the same collarbone he broke in 2015...every arm chair expert said there is no correlation to these injuries but maybe just being known as injury prone gives the defenders just a little more incentive to hit him hard.....we know Romo doesn't get late hit calls

Waiting a couple extra weeks is never the wrong call with Tony....shoulda went on the IR

I agree and honestly I see no reason to depart from the Dak 'n Dunk, waggling style that plays into Prescott's strengths. The Commanders seemed quite mystified by it. Sure the league might figure it out, but by that point we may have a new QB under center anyway.

im way more interested in what happens after his first turnover. The limited playbook that gradually expanded week 1 to week 2 is being used to protect him. I would expect the first pick to follow the first td pretty closely as he gets confidence. Hopefully that td comes first.

Replacing these 12 play drives with multiple 5 yard passes and plugging in a few more 3 and outs and a few more chunk yardage plays...how will he deal with that tempo? Thats what I want to see. Thats when we'll know if hes really the long term qb.

Yes, Romo knows what time it is. But also, Romo wanted Prescott on the team, and he's coaching him hard trying to win games until he can get back on the field. So it's not like he's just standing around watching, and he's got to be genuinely excited when we win, as it puts the team in better position for when he takes over and leads the team the rest of the way .

I don't know if I believe he can can remain free of injury after he comes back, but you know he believes it.

Or he can be fully healed and not ready to play.......he is no different than any other player needing to get into football shape. As he rarely has any action in preseason or TC.
And has not going on 2 years now.

I just don't think he can jump back in.

He lasted what.. 20 plays this preseason before going down again?

This is not some coincidence.

I'm for Romo playing but as the #2 now instead of starting.

There are 52 other guys on the team too. They deserve the best shot at winning too

It can't just be about Tony anymore.

We must grow as time moves on..not keep trying to reset the clock.

It's hard but this team has had to deal with QBs having trouble needing to end their careers due to injury.

Meredith, Aikman and now Romo come to mind.

Naturally Romo wanted a backup QB on the team that we could win with in the event he was injured. Not Romo or anyone else thought the day we drafted Dak in the 4th round that he would be as good as he is. If he knew Dak would end up challenging him for his job doubt he would have wanted him on the team. No established starting QB is going to feel threatened by their team selecting a QB in the 4th round.

Not saying Romo isn't happy that we won last week but he knows if Dak continues to improve and we win games with him his days as the Cowboys starter are likely over. He's aging and can't stay healthy. The injuries are going to diminish his skills and we already can see that he doesn't move as well as he used to. Romo can't be counted on to stay healthy for very long and it's hard to go forward with a QB that can't take a good hit anymore.
