Irving and his representation have the main responsibility. This is supposed to be a grown man.

The Cowboys have invested millions of dollars into this player. They are just as responsible if not more.

He may be a grown man on paper but the Cowboys would be fools to trust a young 20 year old to just know what to do.

His representation definitely deserves some responsibility.

Forget about character and RKGs and team culture. If this is true and Irving is getting an additional suspension for not following the league mandate issued on his original suspension, it brings up the question as to whether we just like to bring in stupid players.

Because you really have to wonder about some of these guys and their complete lack of self awareness, responsibility and just common sense.

I mean, it's a bunch of young 20something year old jocks who run into eachother at full speed for fun/money.

It's not like we're watching the National Orthopedic Surgery League. People really need to put this stuff in perspective.

That is pretty much what I was saying.

The NFL are employers. If I were convicted of a crime, and did not follow through with the conditions of probation, why would it be my employer's responsibility to monitor that?

Now, you can call the Cowboys foolish for not spending their money wisely. But that is not a reason to suggest they bear any responsibility to remind him of something that he was told.

At any rate, it sounds like someone actually read him the rules and he blurted it out in disbelief that the league can expect counseling and increase suspensions.

Meanwhile, at NFL Headquarters:

Goodell: {yawns} Slow news day. Hmm. What is this, David Irving. Well. Is that so? He did not go to counseling?

Voice of John Mara: You know what to do.

Goodell: Yes, my liege.

This works better if you use the voice of Mr. Burns and Smithers on this deal Al.

This all brings to mind my favorite episode of Sponge Bob Squarepants. (I have two kids, sue me!)

In this episode, Mr. Crabs is holding some big thing to announce who's being promoted at the Krusty Krab, Sponge Bob or Squidward. Sponge Bob is certain he'll be getting it. He of course doesn't, leaving Mr. Crabs to explain why to the crestfallen Sponge Bob. "It's just that you're...ah...um..."

Voice from crowd: "Moron?"
Mr. Crabs: "No, no, that's not it at all. It's that you're a..."
Voice from crowd: "Imbecile?"
Mr. Crabs: "No, it's not that. Sponge Bob here is...uh...a..."
Voice from crowd: "Ding-a-ling?"
Mr. Crabs: "No...but that's closer."

He's responsibility is to play football. If that is what it takes to keep players out of travel install curfews and have them get picked up at the bus.

Players aren't smart. They aren't responsible. All they know in life is football. So things handed down to them from the NFL is not clear. Too much legalize crap and jargon.

They're not grown men, not children.

Stop trying to excuse stupidity.

Has anybody said "RKG" yet? Because this seems like the kind of thread where somebody would say it, and then look silly for both jumping the gun and also for somehow not understanding what "RKG" meant in the first place and then have to slink away until the next inevitable minor issue of the sort that affects all teams crops up.

If not, then, "RKG." Lol.

Didn't excuse stupidity. Just pointed out the Cowboys could do more than just sit by and let these suspensions happen one after the other. Who said anything about excuses?

And this is EXACTLY what I am talking about when fans say things like..."hell be back in 4 games and be fine".

-may be rusty
-may have gotten out of shape
-may get a nagging injury when he comes back
-may take a few weeks to get going
-may not have prepared properly in training camp knowing he wont be playing
-may get suspended again while out doing nothing

A guy rarely comes back from suspension and jumps right back in at a high level. Takes a special kind of player. And Irvin isnt that.

You have a point. Lawrence wasn't the same guy coming off of suspension, but he also had a mitigating factor of that back injury and surgery too.

Sure you did.

It's everybody's fault but the guy making the mistakes.

The Cowboys run a football team, not a daycare.
