REALLY? As in answer the question. What information are you basing this on? Last years team? Draft projections? Camp reports? Gut feeling? Are you a coach on some level? Scout? I'm just asking. You're making a bold definitive declaration at an extremely early phase. We are relying on rookies to contribute.. we could have drafted all busts or the next Derrell Revis. What are you basing this opinion on?

I get the concerns about having to rebuild the defensive backfield. The over reactions about our DB and safeties getting burnt in the first half is a bit amusing. One has to really look at the main issue, no DB can hold a receiver for too long when we were not generating any type of pressure. Our DLine just couldn't collapse their 2nd, third and 4th stringer offensive linemans at all, making Gabbert a journeyman look like the second coming of Rogers out there with lots of time to set his feet and find an open WR. We really realistically won't see what our real D would look like until the second to the last pre-season game oreoreis played.

Difficult to read it.

Marinelli is not going to call fancy coverages when the rookies have hardly had time to learn the basics.

Add in all the defensive suspensions..

and I think it will be mid-season before we really know.

Hopefully the season will still be alive for us then.

The offense can't score 40 a game to win each week.

I was responding to you asking me if I was a coach etc. Nothing I said had anything to do with last night game. I didn't even watch it. I don't care about a meaningless first preseason game.

I am amused that you are amused about overreactions after the first pre-season game, because your post seems to be an overreaction after the first pres-season game.

Where in my post did I stated I was amused about the overreactions??? I was stating some observations I had about the overreactions and how it might be beneficial to look at the context how the DLine affects the play of the DB's. Maybe you need to clearly read a post and understand the context of it.

Have you watched this defense in the last year's? Where is the pass rush coming from? Tell me.

We drafted rookie DB none of which are superstars and will have immediate impact game changing ability. It takes time to play DB in this league if your not a bona fide superstar. Again im taking about this season only. I just don't get how someone saying our defense is not any good such a shock to you.

I gave you a detailed reason why I think they improve this season. You keep talking about the time DBs aren't superstars.......they don't have to be cause 3 corners and 3 safeties are ahead of them that have experience.

Awuzie will be a superstar though you can see that watching him and we haven't even seen Lewis who is a better cover corner.

What shocks me is people that say this defense isn't good enough this season when they haven't a clue how they will perform. You keep saying Dallas isn't a lock to win a superbowl this season but yet no team is. It shocks me when we have upgraded the defense but somehow is going to regress this season and be worst

It takes time when you rebuild a defense with all young guys. So yes it's so easy for me to say what Im saying. Sorry I added one more comment. Lol. Now you can have the last word.

Preseason always gives you an inacurrate view of the defense. They're either playing man to see who can cover, or they're playing zones, but with a mismatch of players who don't know each other well, or they're playing zone, but they're plugging in questionable guys who are unlikely to make the roster in some spots. It only takes one breakdown to get exposed.

Plus, they limit the DL stunts and games to keep things vanilla.

We looked bad defensively early last night, but that's pretty much par for the preseason course.

I didn't even watch the game last night. My opinion has nothing to do with the game last night. Our defense is not any good. It does not take a genius to figure that out. I don't get while get so defensive. Im not bashing them. I love the Cowboys. But after reading posts how this team is going to cruise thru the NFC it gets crazy after a while. This defense is NOWHERE near good enough to win a championship.

You base this observation on what? Based on what people say on CZ? Come on.....

Formidable? That is a huge stretch.

"should" Basing it on paper...IF Smith plays at his 1st rd level, Tapper plays at all, Irving & Moore come back to provide a pass rush, IF the 2nd & 3rd CB picks continue to develop and get better as the season moves along (like Brown last year), IF Heath can fill the SS shoes, IF Taco can get some rush, and last but not least IF Jones takes his game to the next level. Yeah a ton of IFs...why I put "should" in quotes. Its a stretch/longshot but on paper it is possible. Look at the talent now---that this team has drafted. Even if you look at just 5th round and below there is talent here, on paper. Will they put it together....man I hope.
