I appreciate that David Helman got it right. He acknowledged that Jerry did not announce who the playcaller was. I also heard Jerry's comments, and he actually said "I wouldn't say." He said he wouldn't make an announcement. The media then went to Callahan, saying Jerry made an announcement, and Callahan made a rookie mistake in admitting to the media, rather than redirecting him to the coach or the GM.

How this announcement was made shows the disfunction of the DFW media, not the Dallas Cowboys. Though if I was Garrett or Jones, I would suggest Callahan never get "sucked" by the media again like he did today.

Seems like the media did their job to me.

Anyone that could potentially have a camera/microphone in their face needs to be media trained.

To go to Callahan and say that Jerry just announced that he was calling the plays??? That is apparently what happened, and it was dishonest and unethical.

EDIT: I agree fully with your second statement. Callahan should know better.

Exactly and the organization should ban whoever decided to "lie" and decieve a coach or player on this team. Very dishonest and very dystructive to be honest and could create a bigger problem down the line. I would assume the team does have some say in who they allow in for media credentials, if not the NFL needs to look into this and see that dishonesty and dystructive reporting is bad for the product. These guys need to be held to some sort of standard.

If this was dishonestly gotten out of Callahan, then it's wrong. Jerry still hims and haws so much, I'd bet the reporter took what he honestly though Jerry said (who knows with Jerry) and ran with it.

But all the more reason, in my opinion, that Garrett should have stated this a while back. However, it is his prerogative. It just makes it easier for something like this to happen.

I don't think any team is required to state who the play caller is, so why even bother announcing it?

Can someone explain to me any advantage gained by not clarifying the play caller?

emasculation at it's finest

JJ strikes again!

Jones stands atop his pedestal and waits for the mediots to gather 'round
JJ: "I, er, um, wanna announce that we, I mean, er, um, I have made a football decision to have Callahan run the offense"
Rep: "How does Jason feel about it?"
JJ: "Who?"
Rep: "Jason Garrett, your head coach?"
JJ falls off his pedestal laughing so hard he lands on his back
JJ: "Jason Garrett lost all responsibility the minute he couldn't stop flirting with my daughter at the draft"
the mediots turn to walk away, shaking their heads
JJ: "Wait, I plan on firing someone soon. Not sure who, but I will see you guys in a day or two......"

The media can't create drama all season about who's calling the plays, who should be calling hte plays, the HC having his tubes tied by the owner, etc, etc, etc..

Less pressure on Callahan to transition into calling the plays if the media doesn't know its him doing it and therefore, they aren't breathing down his neck every week..

Other teams defensive coordinators/HC's not knowing exactly what to gameplan for from week to week..

What's the advantage of announcing who's calling them?

tell that to the 2 teams that were in the super bowl

The team that won the SB did it as a result of their passing game. Flacco's numbers in the playoffs were staggering. He passed for over 1100 yards, had 11 TD's and his passer rating was 117.2. Baltimore kept coming up short in title games until he stepped up as a passer. Both Flacco and Kaepernick had to air it out in the SB. The last 4 SB MVP's have all been QB's so yes the NFL is a passing league.

Yes!!!! Jerry may have saved Red from himself!!! It was painfully obvious Red was not getting the job done. Wearing two hats HC/OC was too much for Red. Hopefully he can prove to be a good HC if that is all he is doing.

Yes, that is exactly what the media does. To get a response that Callahan made.

He should have been smarter because that is the oldest trick in the book.

And if you find it unethical, then are you shocked and dismayed the police use it daily all over this country?

Nobody really lied though. Jerry basically DID say that Callahan is calling plays. He said the decision about play calling had been made weeks ago and then said...

“If you’ve been looking at practice you can get a pretty good idea of how it’s going there,” Jones said. “You can see Bill very involved in what we’re doing.”

It's not hard to figure out what Jerry is saying there.

Still, I do feel bad for Garrett. Clearly, this was forced on him. And even then, he clearly wasn't ready to announce it. Let the head coach be the head coach, Jerry, you senile old . This is yet another embarrassment for Jerry's clown show.

I imagine he was hoping to avoid the impending slew of Jerry-immasculated-Jason-Garrett stories, and the hours of talk show coverage this is about to get, since that stuff doesn't help the team or help the HC's authority one bit.

Why the the hell would this be a secret? If a decision was made then freaking announce it. They are all grown men for crying out loud.

Clearly, you like making stuff up and inserting it for the truth. You don't know who made what decision or how involved anyone was in said decision.

You making stuff up and inserting it for the truth detracts from finding what actually did happen.

Jerry certainly shares a lot of the blame here. Every time he opens his mouth, something moronic gets said. I have never seen Bob Kraft drunk talking about Tom Brady or ranting about glory holes.
