DC.com: Callahan Confirms Playcalling Role For 2013 Campaign

Can someone explain to me any advantage gained by not clarifying the play caller?

I can see the advantage of not discussing any of the inner workings of the coaching, play-calling, strategy, game plan etc.

It does nothing to help the team and does everything to give the competition recon. You can understand them not giving up the playbook I hope.

Why the the hell would this be a secret? If a decision was made then freaking announce it. They are all grown men for crying out loud.

What on Earth does this have to do with anything. You think in preparing for combat you want the enemy to know who has what responsibilities? If they are about marketing then you go the JJ route. If you are interested in winning then you want the competition preparing for both eventualities.

Belichek does not share any inner workings with the media. Is he childish too?

There's a certain hypocricy in the fact that fans blast the media for badgering and pestering on this issue and then the same fans just lap it all up.

I imagine he was hoping to avoid the impending slew of Jerry-immasculated-Jason-Garrett stories, and the hours of talk show coverage this is about to get, since that stuff doesn't help the team or help the HC's authority one bit.

idgit my friend, that was a Professor Plum, in the library with the candlestick sort of comment.

Since when does Jerry Jones think any free press coverage is bad?

Exactly. It's not like the Dallas media is likely to spin this negatively in any way. Just get the word out and we'll get back to business as usual tomorrow.

If this were combat I might agree, but since the majority of teams have a designated signal caller from the sidelines or booth, I'd say knowing who it was isn't an issue at all.

I don't believe pro football is Omaha Beach on D-Day.

*He* doesn't. Jerry loves the coverage. I don't expect Jason agrees with Jerry on that point. It's a big, stupid, unnecessary distraction. I hate it when Jerry does this stuff. I just want a quiet offseason where we prepare our young guys and try to fix what's wrong. This pointless drama is just fatiguing, and it takes away from the positive momentum the team is trying to build.

They may just be little stories about mall cops, and jeans needing belts, and who's calling the plays? But this stuff takes its toll after a while. If nothing else, it takes energy to step carefully around whenever there's a mic in your face, and it creates opportunities for the HC and the OC to appear not on the same page publicly. Yuck.

I certainly agree this takes the premium away from football and correcting issues with the team and puts it in a circus atmosphere.

Which is a symptom of why I think the GM needs to lose his job.

But be careful, idgit, because your comment smacks of speaking out about Jerry.

And all us Great Unwashed know people on this board are listening. :C)

Who the play caller is matters. Whether they announce it for the world to know doesn't. No advantage or disadvantage.

Yeah. Jerry's a mixed-bag in my book, but this stuff is Jerry at his worst. He has to know this is a point of contention for his coach. If so, he's to be doing this on purpose.

I should say, before I get too worked up, that I haven't seen the footage of Garrett talking about it yet. Maybe I'm getting irritated over nothing, but it doesn't surprise me if this is being reported accurately.

Why should they? They're the only ones who need to know. We don't.

Yes, that is exactly what the media does. To get a response that Callahan made.

He should have been smarter because that is the oldest trick in the book.

And if you find it unethical, then are you shocked and dismayed the police use it daily all over this country?

lol...journalism and criminal investigation are two entirely different contexts.

Par for the last 17 years save the Parcells times it's been a fly by the seat approach with no real direction as a whole. Hence a losing franchise is being accepted as the norm in and around the Dallas Cowboys but rotted from the inner core.

The concept of eliciting a truthful response is the same in both.

Yep par for the course.

I've lost count how many times Jerry has undermined Jason on discussing injured players' status for games the last 2 years.

:laugh2: Who cares?

I do!!!

This is the best news of the offseason and helps our team more than anything else. Addition by subtraction.

Yes, if you ever watch one of those reality police shows like The First 48, you will see that the Police will tell suspects and witnesses anything in order to get the info or confession that they want to get. I'm not saying that they shouldn't do it, but it is funny to watch.

I love the line "we can't help you if you don't tell us what happened".

Why does there have to be any advantage?

Is looking like a functional organization not enough by itself?
