I placed even more faith in the Trysten Hill pick as a 2nd rounder, than I did with Maliek Collins, who was picked in the 3rd round.
- Primarily because I thought McClay; whose role and authority decides what round a typical player on their board, is selected and goes in, would come up
big this time around, and he and his scouts had to see something great on game tape that indicates he was gonna be a steal in the 2nd round.
- That Hill had such innate ability as a disruptor on tape, and as a much needed (and harder to acquire) interior force ..over more heralded picks
in safeties Juan Thornhill and Taylor Rapp, that I admit that I was sold on what Cowboys put out on draft day - and surely McClay would not be
subject to making same mistake twice, in " reaching " for DL prospects, just for the sake of getting a DL guy.
- I actually place the Hill pick more on McClay, more than I do with Marinelli.
as again: - McClay makes final decision on what round this and that player goes in; ....whereas a Marinelli has the strong recommendation on the preference- type of player-position he wants.
- again, just as we did with Taco in the 1st round, I thought we again forced the DL pick too early, because we were too worried about not being able to get the particular player/position
a round later combined with being so pressed to fill that need position.
- Sure Marinelli is gone now but I am still somewhat concerned about how we are evaluating these DL picks that haven't been successful since DLaw. (taco, hill, maliek, Armstrong) Gregory is more an
asterisk as we know what's caused and slowed his growth and potential.
