FRISCO, Texas – Former Cowboys wide receiver Terrell Owens is among 15 modern-era finalists for the Pro Football Hall of Fame’s Class of 2017, the NFL announced Tuesday.

The list was trimmed from 26 semifinalists. Among those who did not advance to the finalist stage are former Cowboys head coach Jimmy Johnson and safety Darren Woodson.

Joining Owens and the other 14 modern-era finalists are two Contributors Committee finalists – Cowboys owner/general manager Jerry Jones and former NFL commissioner Paul Tagliabue – and Seniors Committee finalist Kenny Easley. Jones was announced as a finalist this past August.

I know there's no realistic way to keep him out, but TO would never have my vote if I were in position to vote on such things. His great negatives pretty much cancel out his great positives. But he's just too productive on paper to ignore, I'm afraid.

You probably aren't the only one who feels that way. I betcha several members of the committee feel the same way. I doubt TO makes the finalists list. But if he doesn't then neither does Isaac Bruce. You can't put him in before TO just in terms of numbers alone.

I'd at least like to see him wait a good several years before getting in. It'll be interesting to see what happens in his case, since he's such a divisive figure for that generation of receivers.

I agree it's a joke that Woodson didn't advance. He deserves to be in the HOF. And I'm not talking about just his numbers, which are impressive, but his passion for the game. My favorite Darren Woodson moment is not winning the 3 super bowls but in one of the Campo years when we sucked. He broke his arm in a game against the Ravens. I believe it was his forearm. He got a cast put on it and came back into the game and played the rest of the game. At that point in the season we were already eliminated from the playoffs and we finished 5-11 IIRC.

That defines Darren Woodson. That defines a football player and a leader. Playing your heart out with a broken arm for a team that finished 5-11 is HOF material. As a fan of the Cowboys, Darren Woodson represented everything you want to see from your players. I've always said he's my favorite Cowboy from that 90's era, I like him more than Irvin, Emmitt, Aikman, Deion etc.

I only bought one jersey during the 90's and it's Darren Woodson's and I still wear it to this day. I loved that player.I'll never forget that Baltimore game.

If this doesn't get a like from @WoodysGirl you're never getting one.

This is why players despise non players. I haven't seen one former player or coach say TO shouldn't be in. In fact, they vehemently defend his position of being a hof lock, but it's good that have your opinion

TO before Darren Woodson tells you all you need to know about the hypocritical NFL. If he advanced and Darren didn't, they shouldn't have fined TO for any of his shenanigans.

Lol, true. Ha, funny, she would have to have me on the ignore list or something if she doesn't like that post.

But seriously Woodson was my idol. I get a little passionate when talking about him. I don't get defensive when people bash Irvin or Emmitt or any of the other 90's Cowboys but I get defensive if they try and bash Woodson. Dude was just unreal and he made the fans proud to be a Cowboy fan.

Exactly. Woodson was the anti-TO. TO was all about him and being divisive. To divided teams and Woodson was just a warrior and a leader of the team. I completely agree it's hypocritical of the NFL.

Mike Martz?

“You can’t print how I felt when T.O. leapfrogged those two (Bruce/Holt). That’s just plain out-and-out ridiculous…. Had they promoted themselves, which was contrary to everything we were about, they’d probably get in without an issue. Had they pulled a T.O., they’re probably get in without an issue. That’s just not who we were.
“If they big-timed it and did all that dumb stuff, they’d probably get in earlier."
And I pretty clearly said he'd get in, too. I just said I wouldn't vote for him, because I wouldn't. He was a narcissistic *** who did as much damage to his team Monday through Saturday as he helped it on Sundays.

I know some people have some personal hatred for TO. Whatever but the dude is a HOF WR period. There is no debate about this. His numbers, he was the number 1 and at worst number 2 WR in the league for almost a decade. He belongs in the HOF no question about it.

Woody's problem is he doesn't have the Pro Bowls/All Pros/All Decades that safeties like Lynch, Atwater, Dawkins, Easley have. We all love Woody but he isn't and shouldn't get in above those guys.

The person I have a problem with not getting in or at least a finalist is Jimmy. I don't care about his longevity. He rejuvenated and rebuilt a franchise in a 4 year span and turned it into a dynasty. Jimmy should at least be a finalist.

How Tim McDonald is in and Darren Woodson isn't amazes me. Tim was always the second best safety in the league behind Woodson.

Tagliabue will likely get in and I'm sure Jerry will at some point. If not this year then at some point in the future

My guess is that he won't get in this year, but neither will Isaac Bruce.
