I know there's no realistic way to keep him out, but TO would never have my vote if I were in position to vote on such things. His great negatives pretty much cancel out his great positives. But he's just too productive on paper to ignore, I'm afraid.
It's not the Hall of Good Guys.

He was Hall of Fame talent. He was a Hal of Fame performer.

Case closed in my book.

Wasn't disputing that--just expressing my disappointment that our owner (who's had long stretches of not being a good owner) could get inducted to the Hall before the coach who built a 3-time champion and the best safety in team history.
Jerry is getting in not due to what he's done as the "GM" of the Cowboys. It's for his influence (positive) on the league over multiple decades. He's as deserving as any.

He was a hall of fame locker room cancer, too. Which goes way beyond partying or other off-field concerns.

It's not about being a good guy or a bad one. It's about how much you do or don't benefit your team.

I'm sure he was hated by his coaches who had to put up for his talent. But I also know he was usually praised by most of his teammates. When he made it back in time for Super Bowl XXXIX....that is Hall of Fame dedication to your craft and teammates.

Should be a first ballot. He'll probably have to wait though....which is where he'll be made to 'suffer' for his ill-temperament.

His production is definitely first ballot.

You remember his reception from his teammates differently than I do. He was divisive. Romo and Witten were careful not to say much publicly, but it was obvious. McNabb's feud with him was well-known. As was his locker room fight with Hugh Douglas (?). Jeff Garcia probably won't come right out and say TO was an *** in SF, but you know, if it walks like a duck....

No doubt that he wasn't loved by all but he was popular in locker rooms from what I recall. Big personality won't always connect with everyone.

In any case i'm not losing sleep over TO's Hall of Fame process.

Having said that, I won't miss the induction speech whenever it comes.

You really think the Cowboys get to 13-3 in 2007 without Owens? Say what you want about him, he made teams he played for better...and he has the numbers. Everything else is just noise. There are a lot of Hall inductees who are not exactly Boy Scout material. It's about objective performance, not subjective perception.

He was but I don't think that is what they look at it beyond the first ballot.

Agree. When you make your team worse. You are not hall of fame.

I don't. But 2007's not the only year I'd judge him on. Over the course of his career he helped teams a ton some seasons, torpedoed them the next.

And again, it's nothing about being a Boy Scout at all. I'm talking about being intentionally divisive and hurting his team as a result. TO's pretty unique in that regard. Most guys don't have the talent to overcome being poisonous in a locker room.

Unless you follow the NFL as a whole.

Good player. Not elite.

Best player on OK defenses who thrived because of 8, 22, and 88.

Get some perspective

And I would advise you do the same. Woodson was a better football player than Lynch or Dawkins. Played S, LB, slot CB as scheme and playcall necessitated. Criminally undervalued because he did not have the flash plays and interceptions.

Your ignorance is noted and will be ignored in the future.

Totally agree. Woodson was a freak of nature. The dude could have been a pro bowl S, CB or LB. That's how good he was. Criminally underrated. He'd be on my first ballot.

You can argue whether Dawkins was better but to see him get the respect to advance the first time he's eligible while Woodson doesn't is just an injustice.
