1) Don’t remember exactly but Goff’s best years seemed to be when he had an excellent OL and could just feed Gurley. OL becomes not as good, Gurley’s knee is shot, and Goff is expected to carry team. Goff clearly can’t carry the Rams. I doubt Goff can carry any team. Turns out Goff is just average with average players around him. A good bus driver with an all-star cast and McVay calling the shots. Paying $32M+ for that is a huge learning mistake.
2) Wentz was a small-school gamble and lucked out going to a good Eagle team. Showed flashes and at his ‘peak’ tore his ACL. Eagles won without him which was a huge red flag ignored by the Eagles. Eagle’s OL and both WR and TE corps fell apart this year. Wentz definitely could not carry that team. Can Wentz carry a team? Probably not. Can Wentz drive a bus of loaded talent? Probably but the cap doesn’t allow for $30M+ bus drivers. Eagles’ drafts have been plain awful recently. Had the Eagles drafted Metcalf and Jefferson over Arcega-Whiteside and Reagor then Wentz probably has a good year.
My main takeaway from Goff, Wentz, and Dak is that all three are bus drivers. Surround any of the three with an all-star cast and they will succeed. None of three are exceptional. None can carry a team. The Cowboys are at the same fork in the road the Eagles and Rams guessed wrong and grossly overpaid which now hamstrings future team’s competitiveness. There is no way Dak or the Cowboys can be successful and competitive paying Dak $35-40M/year.
Dak, which is more important? Winning a SB making $25M plus $10M in endorsements or just making $35M plus $7M in endorsements and never coming close to a SB? Comes down to greed over team.
