If he continues to play to the level he has, the Cowboys won't be able to afford him without giving up someone else. Also he will be 30 before next season. The Cowboys don't pay for players over 30 anymore.
You’re right in the Cowboys usually don't seek out 30 yr old players in FA or trades, but yet this is also one of their own that is making his footprints and impact here – he won’t be thought of as a longer term contract because he is 29, heading into his 30’s.
That’s why I think a more likely 3 year deal could be in the discussion, but if I’m the Quinn camp, I’d make that 3 year deal is really loaded upfront with a sizeable guarantee and something like 3 year, $25 million.
Either we are going to re-sign him …or a contender like Philly ( even with Graham and Barnett) or Seattle could sign him up.
I hear some saying if he leaves via FA , we still win in getting an compensatory pick a year later, and that’s certainly better than getting nothing at all , but that seems like a consolation prize
and we would still be in search for our cornerstone impact pass rusher.
And give out another credit that goes out to Wil McClay's crew with what is looking like a very schrewd personnel move in trading for Quinn with only surrendering a mere late 6th round pick.
He was obviously on the trading block and out there for the taking, and any of these NFC contenders could have had a shot at him too. But we obviously did our homework with his
risky medical background.
