Ya, this board and it's predecessor is why I continue. I couldn't take the nonsense of the other ones so I just gave up, read'em but didn't post.

I think Booze and those guys have a decent place too.

Iceberg, I liked it. I am a little more hopeful that you are but I liked your post.
Incidently, don't ever explain your humor, argument, etc. If you have to explain it to somebody they won't get it anyway. Because then you will have to explain the explanation.

I see the logic in your post or the basis for it, but while I might rant and rave, I am an incurable optimist; maybe not this year, or etc., or etc. but someday. Why else would I have hung around for 45 years? Especially for the last 6+?

Jerry,

I feel your pain. It's the same as I've been saying for years. During our down years, we made ourselves feel better by stating, "At least we're not the Bengals". For some reason, that statement made people feel better about themselves, and continuous 5-11 seasons.

I too want a return to the dominant ways. I'm tired of the 3 point wins and 2 point loses. I want this team to kick everyone's azzes for the next 10, 20, 30 freakin' years!!!

Tom Landry did it. He dominated the NFL for 25 straight seasons. Ok, ok ... different time, different era. Doesn't matter ... no one else from that time and era did it. Only him.

Well obviously every fan wants that. To kick everyones azzes. But it's easier said than done. Ever notice though how it only happens to about 1 team every 10 years? I mean if you're talking truly dominant.

And you'll notice that usually the team hit rock bottom first.. I mean total rock bottom.. of the 1-15, 3-13 variety. Course about the time we first came close to doin that again, Jerry goes and pizzes away two #1 picks on JG.

I also imagine Jerry expected Bill to be as competitive as possible right out of the gate (while also trying to improve the roster overall). You dont hire him to have a worse record than Campo for a couple years. How stupid would that make both JJ and BP look. If that aint the case, Bill did worse than any of us ever dreamed by "allowing" that rag tag outfit to ever even go 10-6 and screw up a drafting philosophy (as in the higher the better when you aint near good enough to really compete anyway).

And by the way, I aint talkin Landry dominant. Thats not truly dominant in my book.. thats just continuing to be super competitive over a very long period. Obviously he wasnt "kicking everyones azzes".

Every decade he coached there was a team that were more "dominant" at least from a championship standpoint. It took us til the 90's to be one of "those" type of teams.

Course all those playoff appearances were nice. Even if they come up short gobs of times. But even 2nd place is the first loser, right?

And I dont mean to sound like I'm dissing Landry. The guy was absolute legend in my book just as he was in everyone elses.

I had the honor of spending a few minutes with him one on one when he and his wife and me and my wife happened to be vacationing at Sun Valley Idaho at the same time in the summer of '92.

I noticed him just chillen (um so to speak) by the ice skating rink so I went and introduced myself and sat and chatted with him for a few minutes. Lucky me, huh?

But anyway.

Yeah Sarge, it really was. As he walked past me on his way from the lodge down to the rink I'm thinking.. omg what do I do? Obviously on one hand I didnt want to bother the man but then again it was a quiet atmosphere. Then I wanted to get him to sign something (or at least be prepared if I had the guts to ask him to) but I was afraid that he might be gone by the time I got up to my room to get a pen and paper and got back down.

I went up anyway though and he was still there when I got back. Went up to him, chatted.. then said if you dont mind.. He said no problem. So I got the token "Best Wishes, Dan.. Tom Landry" on a Sun Valley notepad.

As I left I said "Oh and it's great for the team to *finally* be gettin something done again after all this time huh?"

He said "Why you Dip*hit!!! and the rest is history.

Ok ok, the ending didnt really happen like that.. I just shook his hand and walked away with a smile that prolly lasted a week.

in a nutshell - it irks me he's wanting to do anything he can to WIN NOW and to me it's a bad path to be on.

it makes us an average, not dominate team. even IF he pulls it off and wins the superbowl, we're starting over. every couple of years you gotta retrench and regear and hope all the breaks go your way to make the playoffs - under this approach.

indie, the pats - the teams you expect to see there do so by planning and building up and out, not by darts on the wall.

i want us back to building up and out. if we're gonna shell our defense and start over, why the reluctance to put our offense on the same timetable in the same manner? we blew up 1/2 the team and ignored the other 1/2. well, made bad choices as well for the other half.

long term - what's our plan? we don't have one - that irks me. don't even have one off to the side cause romo can't come in during a blowout. what we see is what we get and this "plan" odds are will do no better.

and that irks me.

Did the Cowboys plan since post-Jimmy EVER have a long term plan?

I haven't been impressed with Parcells' performance either. Bum Phillips did the same thing he did in the Big Easy(trying to rebuild with young players, but got over-the-hill players like Stabler and Campbell in key positions plus "his guys" to boot), and it's already blowing up in Tuna's face.

However-this whole mess started in the first place when Jerry was too stubborn to even consider hiring a GM. Parcells needs to go, things have gotten worse each year he's been here.

OTOH, unless Jerry really, really considers in revamping this entire org, we could go for another 10 years of this QB-musical chairs crap, with the Skins dominating us to boot.

were you around when he said he'd fight anyone at any time? some mike in louisanna said he'd do it, so graney said he couldn't afford the flight. so i said i'd pay for it cause i knew he still wouldn't do it?

man, what a loser.

...that's why I support a forum where all memebers are required to use their real name and post their picture along with their name.

Anonimity has this nasty habit of bringing out the "jerk" on the internet. It's why I lose interest at times.

I don't remember that in particular, but man, Graney has been around for a LONG time. I left that site years ago. At one point - we were suppose to carpool to a NY/Cowboy game but I couldn't do it.

...has just jumped up considerably. Not that I held you in poor regard before, but that move just exemplifies character in my mind.

This is so typical. No one on this board but Adam does a bit of homework when it gets in the way of a good piss and moan sesssion. For those of us who take the time to look things up or recap PC's, it gets really tiresome that people put so little effort into things. In that way it is worse than Extremeskins. All I asked for was a list of 5 teams and you couldn't provide it for me. It wouldn't have taken half as long as the long winded diatribe you just put us all through.

Teams playing for 1 year do not leave $10 million in unused cap space.
Teams playing for 1 year do not break camp with 10 rookies.
Teams playing for 1 year do not have so many 1st and 2nd year players seeing significant playing time.
Teams playing for 1 year do not go with a rookie 6th round draft pick at right tackle instead of signing a veteran like Scott Gragg if given the opportunity.
Teams playing for 1 year do not trade down for a future 1st round draft pick.

You're smart enough to know it. That's what makes you so shameless. And now it appears you're lazy on top of it.

Ouch.

Well, he did if you bothered to notice.

But you don't really care, so the effect was spoiled.
