The fact that Zeke has not been released already shows that the Cowboys do not believe Zeke is worth nothing as most in this thread think.
No doubt, though how much Jerry's aged, drunken addled brain factors into that is an open question.

Do you want to suggest that because the Cowboys top brass values Zeke, after paying him nearly twice market value, that we should too?

One of your better posts! Now, if we could only get rid of another hapless, overpriced player. You know who.
I have had 1000 posts like that about Zeke.

Hopefully Tyron Smith will get punted as well.

Cowboys dont have a "golden opportunity" to rid themselves of Zeke, there is still $11 million owed to the cap on his contract.

You cut Zeke before June 1, you eat all $11 mill on this year's cap. You do post June 1 release, you eat $5.5 this year and $5.5 next year.

That is why they are talking about Zeke taking a pay cut down to a 2 yr, $11 million deal. That is the exact same amount in dead money if you do a post June 1 release for Zeke. See, you are paying that $11 million regardless of if Zeke is on the team or not, so its not a golden opportunity to get rid of Zeke, it just depends if you want to pay that and have Zeke basically for "free" or would you rather pay that and have Zeke sit home on his couch?

Personally, I am not a fan of paying a guy $11 million to sit home, I would at least like to get something for my money and Zeke can at least be a good short yardage back.
NO buddy, you release him after June 1 and you save 11 million this year. Its a no brainer. This has been common knowledge for a couple years now.

And you arent getting anything for any money. If Zeke is here, Jerry will demand he get at least half the carries and they will be wasted carries. Even though your math is off I would gladly pay 11 million not to have to play him 1 down next year. He drags down the offense and limits its abilities.

I’m on the Jeff Wilson train if we get someone in FA. Shouldn’t cost much either.

Just me, but think the decision has already been made that we are moving on from Zeke, both parties are trying to find the right time to do it gracefully.

The amount of debate over the guys salary is ridiculous.

He CANT run anymore. What else is there to debate?

It’s happened to many great ones, and the only difference here is this FO has no clue how to construct a winning roster.

Sorry but they don’t. Trying to justify bringing back a cooked player because he is willing to take less than his overpayment of the last few seasons is one small example of why this team hasn’t been to a conference final in what’s now pushing 30 years.

What Zeke was paid in the past is irrelevant, like you said that is a sunk cost.

The only question that is relevant is at what salary level in 2023 is having Zeke on the team more valuable than releasing him.

$5.5 million is dead money neutral............if Zeke wants more than this, it is probably more valuable to release him. If he accpets this then its probably more valuable to keep him.

Anyways, good discussion, this should be resolved one way or the other very soon.
