Defense

You know what ive learned from my history of watching super bowl winning teams? Make a plan and stick to it. Dont try to create last year's champ every offseason.
Amen.

You can win with a dominant defense. You can win with a dominant offense. You can win with a balanced team. There's no single formula.

It is, however, undeniably true that some positions are more important than others, and QB is by far the most important position on the field. If you don't have a top QB, you have to have a lot of other things going for you to win.

Watching these past few superbowls and still nobody sees that you win championships with an elite defense.

I'm all in on getting this defense corrected and a top 5 elite unit.

A 39 year old QB had 140 yards 0 TDs and an interception and won because of that defense he has.

Let's reach for a rookie QB though

Well you don't win one way. New England won with offense last year. Teams have won both ways so you point that you are making means nothing. You win as a collective team. And we wouldn't be reaching for a QB especially with our current QB not even currently healthy.

Cam is a hack. Period.

Come on guys didn't you know that you can just go get an elite defense and win a superbowl?
The OP says its a top secret that no one has yet to figure out.

I guess all we need to do is go out and draft a pick in the first round and then its done.
Lets ignore the free agents like D Ware and Talib that helped Denver.

Cowboys WERE building an elite defense, but Romo gets injured and Cowboys offense goes into toilet, but the defensive minded HC that gets the axe. Same coach that just coached one of the greatest displays of defense in the history of the NFL.

Wade Phillips was the one that got away Jerry, because of your infatuation with Garrett.

Two honest questions:

1. If we start this off season, how many years will it realistically take us to build an "elite" defense capable of winning a Super Bowl like Denver's?

2. How many years will Romo have left as a starting QB by the time the defense reaches "elite" status?

My opinion right now is that it will take longer to build an elite "Denver-like" defense than Romo has years left in his career. I am a big fan of Romo BTW.

Things were started two seasons ago...Lawrence, Gregory, and Jones.

Don't forget the saviors of the past two seasons: Henry Melton, Greg Hardy.

Hardy is a real piece...we'll see where that heads towards. He had been out about a year and a half before he walked onto the carpet for Dallas. C'mon...

Holy cow. You guys run in circles sometimes.

Yup, we got rid of Ware. Remember?

Ware played in 11 games and had 7 sacks this season.

Props to Ware but good luck with him making it through a 16 game season from here on out.

If Ware were still here, he would've been hiding in the steam room after tough losses because the coward was scared to face the media.

Solid job by him of following Miller's lead tho!

Yup, he had 2 sacks in a Super Bowl victory. Meanwhile, we have nothing right now.

It's always a reach and lots of luck trying to find the next franchise guy at QB. But it is time. Can't sit back and watch first round QB's go and hope some later round guy pans out. This opportunity (draft position) doesn't come around often.

I think it's also interesting that the Broncos very much relied on FAs and players not drafted by the Broncos to play key roles:
  • Manning (QB)
  • Ware (OLB)
  • Ward (Safety)
  • Talib (CB)
  • Sanders (WR)
  • Daniels (TE)
  • Evan Mathis (G)
  • Vasquez (G)
How that team looks next season will be more interesting. This team isn't built for sustained success.

I never said not to get defensive players in the draft. ......nice try though

But there isn't a top 4 QB in this draft. ........that's smart let's be like the Browns and reach on QBs cause we have 4th pick
