Defenses are making QBs into check-down artists

All they've got to do is get them out of the pocket and the check Downs will end real quick.

Today it’s Mahomes and nobody else.
You’re wrong. His numbers were way down last season compared to the previous season. He had close to 1100 fewer passing yards and 14 fewer TD passes in 2023 than in 2022. Last week he was under 300 yards and only had one TD pass with an INT.

What are you trying to say?

That Mahomes isn’t clearly different and above everyone other QB?

Its pretty clear in Todays NFL that its Patrick Mahomes and then everyone else; and the gap is pretty big.

I cannot remember the last time in the NFL it was this way. One guy so clearly superior to everyone else.

I wonder if there is any correlation to the league devaluing the RB position. In other words, defenses generally don't respect the running so they are keeping everything in front of them and daring teams to run. Not sure about this .....just curious
Thinking the same thing No threat of a good running attack allows d to play the pasd

I'm thinking last week was probably an anomaly. Traditionally, Defenses are slow to catch up with Offenses until a few games into the season because a lot of teams roll out a different look to start the year on O.

it can be argued that due to the new rules as regards practices and especially padded full contact practices, that the Offense is actually slower to get ready than the defense. New players needed actual game time to get used to each other; and for new systems to get settled in.

I’m not saying that at all but you said it’s Mahomes and no one else as if the other top QBs in the league aren’t any good.

I’m saying the gap between Mahomes and the next tier is wider than it’s ever been regarding QBs.

In the 90s you could’ve had 5 or 6 QBs considered “elite”. The same for the 2010s.

Today there’s just one.

There’s a wide gap between Mahomes and the rest of the QB’s but there’s still a couple of QBs out there that are considered elite. Joe Burrow, Josh Allen and Lamar Jackson are considered elite. You have to remember that Mahomes is playing for a great team. The Chiefs were a playoff team before Mahomes took over in 2017. They had made the playoffs three straight seasons before he became their starter. He’s clearly taken them to another level, but it’s not like he took over a bad team.

There’s only 1 elite QB playing today.

Burrow can’t stay on the field and Allen is a turnover machine.

Read a couple of nuggets that some are starting to question just good Burrow is w/o elite receivers and we are going to find out about Allen w/o Diggs.

I hadn't considered that. It definitely takes some time for QB/WR and O line to build rapport. Meanwhile, the league saw 15 RBs run for over 80 yards last week.

You didn’t see my edited post, but Lamar Jackson is also elite. You expect QBs to be perfect and just because a QB can’t stay on the field due to injuries doesn’t mean they’re not elite. Brett Favre had more turnovers than just about any QB in NFL history, but was still an elite QB.

Lamar Jackson is a playoff loss away this year from tying Dak with the worst playoff record ever for a QB with at least 5 starts.

Not an elite QB.

Once again you’re putting it entirely on the QB. He’s won two MVP’s and is one of the most dynamic players to ever play the QB position. He’s clearly an elite QB. Warren Moon was a first ballot Hall of Famer but his playoff record was 3-7. Was he not an elite QB? How about Dan Fouts who was also a first ballot Hall of Famer who had a playoff record of 3-4. Was he not an elite QB? Dan Marino was 8-10 in the playoffs. Was he not an elite QB? It’s the teams not the QBs that have resulted in those playoff records.

I’m not gonna argue with ya.

If you want to hand out the “elite QB” title to everyone then you’re entitled to do that.

You’re not gonna argue with me because you know it’s an argument you’re gonna lose. There’s a number of Hall of Fame QBs that didn’t have great playoff records because their teams weren’t good enough. I handed out the elite title to four QBs that everyone who knows football consider elite.
