Defensive Line up

In obvious passing situations I would think LVE, Cox, Parsons would be a great combo. Parsons could blitz or be out in the flat quickly

Quinn says in the presser that we will run 3-4 front but 4-3 or 4-2 on obvious passing downs.

who will be your starters in 3-4 and 4-3?

3-4 DL Hill, Gallimore, Odigizuwa. LBs Tank, Smith, LVE, Gregory, DB Joseph, Diggs, Kazee, Wilson

4-3 DL Tank, Hill, Gallimore, Gregory. LB LVE, Smith, Parson, DB.... same as above.

How do we maximize our LB corp assuming everyone is healthy?

The 3-4 vs 4-3 is not important.

The issue with Nolan was that he ran a read-and-react defense.

The Wade Phillips 3-4 defense was much more similar to Marinelli's 4-3 defense than it was to Nolan's 3-4.
- Both Wade and Marinelli ran penetrating, 1 gap type fronts.

In the modern era, 4-2-5 is the alignment used for over 50% of snaps regardless of "base" 3-4 or 4-3.

The 3-4 is a run defense alignment. Belichick runs it about on about half of 1st down snaps and in short yardage situations. About 20% or less of the total defensive snaps.

Quinn has used 4-3 but has had hybrid LB/edge type players. Bruce Irvin in Seattle. Vic Beasley in Atlanta.

How do we maximize the talent of LVE, Jaylon and Parson if all are healthy? Where would u play each?
Are you seeing a different Smith than most of us? Hopefully he is cut or only plays when there is an injury…

Hopefully the next snacks Harrison... he was drafted in the 6th round to I believe... Nevermind he went u drafted
Yeah, huge, two gapping run stuffers don’t go early in the draft anymore. They typically go mid-to-late in the draft if that’s all they do. This pick IMO, is one later round guy that has a real good chance to not only stick, but get snaps this season.

ill believe it when I see it with this staff. Few years back we picked 2 DTs later. Neither made the team.

So funny how everyone is trying to figure out what these idiots in the FO are doing. Nothing makes any sense.

Only thing you can be relatively certain of is that NONE of these rookie DL are going to do much this year. They didnt draft ANY starters or anything close to that in this draft.

Starting DL is most likely going to be Lawrence, Gallimore, Urban, Gregory. This draft didnt change anything there.

All they really did in this draft is throw numbers at the problem and hope they get lucky.

This was a quantity over quality draft. All we can do is pray that Parsons and Joseph at least turn out to be great picks and are day 1 starters that make an impact.
Pretty sad outlook but one that I happen to agree.
Even if some later picks pan out and people are celebrating I’m still one who believe that it was luck and not actual well ran draft by FO.

The draft itself is luck. Making it an entity.

Why pin it on the Cowboys? Or the Packers.....or the Eagles...etc, etc.

Base defenses for the Seahawks are 4-3 defenses.

4-3 under

4-3 over

Both have 2 2 gappers. the 3-4 has 3 2 gappers.

The 4-3 under from left to right on the defenses side of the ball is a 4-1-3-9
The 4-3 over from right to left on the defense side of the ball is a 4-3-1-9.

compared to a 4-3 where the 0T/1T 2 gaps, only one more player 2 gaps.

Interesting is the role DQ played in creating this front in the first place..

Quinn originally thought of moving Bryant from defensive tackle to a run-stuffing defensive end in Seattle's hybrid 3-4 scheme, which revitalized Bryant's NFL career.

I think we maximize the LBs by keeping 54 and 55 off the field.

Sounds eerily like the Mike Nolan “system”.

I'd just keep it simple and play a 4-3.

Totally agree. Don't think there is a collective high IQ amongst this defensive bunch.

I do not think a training camp and actual teaching of certain techniques change the basics of what a player is.

This was THE big fail with Nolan.

There was public whining from Lawrence(and others) about trying to put players in positions they weren't comfortable at. I remember the backlash from the un named players saying they thought the coaching was dumb or did not know what they were doing.

Quinn should do the KISS method with this defense- Keep it Simple Stupid.

My .02.

Smith is terrible in space because he can't turn and run. Put him at MIKE, Parsons at WILL and LVE at SAM.

Ask me again in September.
exactly even quinn has no idea..OTAS, MC, TC and pS games will let the best ;layers be very apparent by game 1 some may get inured, cut, or put on the PS depth charts are not made at this time of year..

lets let the coaches figure that out by game 1...

competition should be fun to watch on defense see who steps it up..

Just seems like more of the same every year with these guys.

Outstanding post. Imo neither line was improved with an impact starter and even quality depth can be questioned.

After just watching last year's example of how starter quality d line play over non starter o line players will determine wins and losses...

And this team did little to nothing in order to truly fortify both lines just leaves me scratching my head.

Guess I should be used to it by now, lol

I think the 4th round OT, character issues aside, will be a quality starter at some point. The NT in the 6th round could grow into a good run plugger, which we will need if we're going to run a 3 man line regularly.

Biadasz is a big upgrade over Looney at C if he can stay healthy.

I know I may get blasted for this, but I’m not so sure Tank fits in with what they want to do. I think in the base defense they want a 5 technique type DE which Urban can play. Odighizuwa and Gholson both may fill that role as well. I could see Tank possibly wearing another uniform(traded) after this season. But it would likely have to be one of those creative (we’ll pay half the salary this year) type deals to get around his contract.
