Houck isn't exactly a zone-blocking guru, is he? Didn't he run a man scheme in Dallas?

Murray was significantly under-utilized for the majority of his time here in Dallas as the Cowboys would abandon the run game and become pass happy. He had some injuries that slowed him, but even when healthy, the team didn't rely on him as much as they should have. It took a serious injury to our QB before the team changed their pass happy ways and we actually started winning. Romo even admitted during a broadcast last year he would pass out of the running look near the goal line to pad his TD stats and would play dumb when Murray would come over and tell him it should have been a run play. Murray was only a contract year player because that's the only year they used him properly.
He was constantly injured the entire time before his contract year. He was like the Sean Lee of running backs. played in 7,10,14 games his first 3 years. Had over 1,000 yards 3rd year. We all knew he was good when he had that +200 yard game against detroit. But he couldn't stay healthy.

It's funny how upset fans sometimes get with ex-players, lol. But that's not an insult, they're just a passionate group. I actually like Murray. He's very knowledgeable of the game and had the best season a RB in Dallas ever had. I respect his insight in regard to the kind of help Houck can give this O line/Offense.
Murray is also a good color announcer on College Game Day Saturdays.

When we ran Houck out of town a few years back most agreed that, though perhaps a legend, the game had passed him by (largely because of his exclusive reliance on power blocking schemes). Callahan replaced him, implemented more ZBS, and seemed to vindicate that view. But now we expect this guy to be a saviour? I’m hopeful. But sceptical.

Yep. Injuries slowed him. But he played in 13 games his rookie year. So he missed a total of 11 games in his 4 years here. But my point is he wasn't used like he should have been when he was healthy. The team would have probably been more successful if they wouldn't have abandoned the run game so often.

Murray was an often injured JAG for 3 years. Goes into beast mode in his contract year. Signs a huge contract. Is out of the league basically the next day. He is the poster boy of contract year MOFO. And his only good season will always be remembered for the horrid fumble in the playoffs against Green Bay.

Sure, but we didn't replace him with Randle - it was Randle and McFadden. And for 2015 McFadden did put up better numbers (4.6 YPC to 3.6, mostly due to our OL) while making 1.25MM to the 9MM DeMarco was paid that year.

And in fairness, none of us knew that Randle was insane.
The bottom line was jones boys didnt want murray back, garrett and romo did.
Jones boys felt like any back could run for 1800 yds behind the great OL THEY built lol.
Just like they felt the wr and TE they had for this year would do just fine. why spend money on wr or TE ??
The jones boys know all !

They are learning on the job too, thats why they think it is ok for JG to learn on the job.
They changed their mind on the RB and got elliot years later.
Now They changed their mind again on the wr and te's lol it never ends.

He had an 1,100 yard season in 14 games in 2013. We didn't utilize his talent. We could have had another 2 years of productivity. He had 1,300 yards in 2016 too.
No slouch.

Teams don't guarantee 14 Million dollars to a back with an injury history if they don't want him back.

Also its funny to read someone mocking Jones for thinking anyone could get 1800 yards behind our 2015 OL when they did get 1890 yards behind our 2015 OL. You aren't helping your argument when Dallas did put up those numbers despite Romo being hurt and guys like Weeden and Cassell starting (with a 1 - 9 record). Even with no passing game Dallas got 1890 yards from a 5th round pick, the Darren McFadden signing that everyone here ridiculed and Ring of Honor candidates like Robert Turbin and Christine Michael.

Hes a guy that never helped this team. was injured for 3 years then has a breakout year when he finally stays healthy. makes one of the biggest mistakes in a playoff game we will ever see. Then turns down the biggest money offered to go to a rival team that doesn't even run a system he would be good in. Like I said **** Demarco Murray. I'm glad he fizzled out the way he did. Karma is a *****
Lol, Demarco never helped this team? Demarco gave the offense great balance that allowed Romo to have the best season of his career. He played hurt and had the best season by a Cowboy RB ever. Who wouldn't follow the money? And the Cowboys were smart to let him walk.
What has your boy Dak done in 3 years besides ride Zeke's coat tails? He may set franchise records for QB futility. Nah, it's the coach, we all know.

well I was thinking of just 1 back getting 1800 .
Murray had more yds from scrimmage than any back since. I think even more than zeke in 2016
the run game wasnt the same in 2015 , if you dont see that then I dont know what to say.

Since when did "anyone" become synonymous with "everyone"?

Why would you compare Murray's individual total in 2014 to the team total in 2015?

It's freaking ridiculous to call Demarco Murray a contract year player. Do you guys not realize he had 5 YPC 2 out of his 3 seasons prior to 2014? That's not a lazy player jobbing it, that's a good RB being under-utilized.

And I don't blame Murray at all for going to Philly, cause the Cowboys lowballed the snot out of him. Dallas offered him 4 years $16 million after 2013, beat him into the ground in 2014, and then when he won OPOY, they "upped" their offer to 4 years $24 million. Philly offered him 5 years $42 million, half guaranteed. Now Dallas' offer was probably smarter in the long term, but it wasn't even remotely competitive.

Say you're some office schlub making $60K. You've just worked the most hours that any company has given an employee in your position in the last 5 years, and your last project just made millions. Your employers offer to raise you to $90K, with the expectation that you work more 80 and 90 hour weeks. Meanwhile, the rival firm down the street is now offering you $125K to work a 9-to-5, and they just brought in a cool new genius wunderkind CEO too. Who in the right mind wouldn't change jobs? Your manager can give you a bunch of crap about "not being loyal" and "not being a team player", but you wouldn't care, you'd just see through it as butthurt that they can't underpay and abuse you any more.

1800 was the number he used. And according to 95% of the posts here after DMC was signed, McFadden was worse than "everyone".

I didn't say 2015 was better, but do you think the DeMarco would have made it 9 milion dollars better? With Brandon Weeden or Sam Cassell playing QB that year?

Would DeMarco have even stayed healthy? He sure didn't in Philly in 2015 because he only started 8 games.
