If we don't resign him, expect a big drop off at the RB position next year.................no way in hell is a rookie going to walk in and put up 1600-1800 yards his rookie year and neither is the underwear thief or else he would have got more snaps.
Just saying the idea that you can replace a RB that had almost 1900 yards rushing and not miss a beat is being very naïve.
Newsflash, expect a huge drop off either way. Here is every RB who has ever gone over 1800 yards in a season and their next season. And if they didn't make a full season I am adding that.
1. Eric Dickerson...2105 to 1234. 14 games
2. Adrian Peterson...2097 to 1266.14 games
3. Jamal Lewis...2066 to 1006. 12 games
4. Barry Sanders...2053 to 1491.
5. Terrell Davis...2008 to 211. 4 games
6. Chris Johnson...2006 to 1364.
7. O. J. Simpson...2003 to 1125.
8. Earl Campbell...1934 to 1376.
9. Barry Sanders...1883 to 1500.
10. Ahman Green...1883 to 1163. 15 games.
11. Shawn Alexander...1880 to 896. 10 games.
12. Jim Brown...1883 to 1446.
13. Tiki Barber...1860 to 1662.
14. Ricky Williams, 1853 to 1372.
15. Walter Payton...1852 to 1395.
16. Jamal Anderson...1846 to 59. 2 games.
17. DeMarco Murray...1845 to ???
18. Eric Dickerson...1821 to 1288. 12 games, 2 teams.
19. O. J. Simpson...1817 to 1503.
20. LaDanian Tomlinson...1815 to 1474.
21. Eric Dickerson...1808 to 2105.
So, once in History has a guy improved, and only one other time has someone come within 90% of the previous year. 19 times the drop off from a big rushing year over 1800 yards has been 80% or worse.
