Demarcus Lawrence playing light's out

26 million against the cap next year. I don't see how we keep him with Dak's 49 million cap hit too. We'll have to re-sign one of those guys just to bring down their cap.

They can restructure Lawrence but he is only signed through 2025, and the 2025 is a void year. So, there's only so much a restructure can do, unless they want to add more void years....
Add in his base salary is guaranteed next year means they can't cut him and get any savings, pre or post June 1st.

Tank has been playing great this year. Looks healthy and finally has someone on the other side helping.

He’s been hovering around 6 pressures a game which would put him over 90+ for the year which is outstanding…all while giving you the usual above average run D.

Thats why it was team friendly, basically he agreed to play a prove it year and stay healthy knowing they could restructure that 3rd year and add 1 or 2 and spread the money out.

Regarding Demarcus Lawrence, this year he will take home 12mil signing bonus +3mil base for 15mil cash.
Next year he makes 15, and 3rd year 10mil.

This year, if he never redid his deal his base was 19mil but had zero protection if he was cut as his guaranteed salary ran out and the dead cap from the prorated signing bonus was already paid in the past.

So, yea, he did take a "pay cut" but gained security in the process with guaranteed salary and the signing bonus

I think someone probably dogged him so much they're stuck on their position regardless of the evidence staring right at them.

SMH.

Your are so cheap. At least read the thread before you comment stuff and make yourself the laughing clown.

He did not take a paycut. Guys really. He earns more money than with his old contract.

Dont misinterpret cap hit with the players income.

Come on guys this is DFlaw we are talking about.

Yeah it looks like we are stuck with the 26 million cap hit next year - it will probably be 2024 when he is gone. Probably why they wanted to save the 20 mill this season to carry over to next year!

Yeah but where did he acutally took a paycut?

sorry, i'm not sure i'm following. 13 is less than 20. his contract was not up, he agreed to a new smaller contract while he still had an existing larger one.

Never said anything about cap hit.
His base salary this year, pre restructure was 19mil, WHICH IS NOT HIS CAP HIT. That means he would of gotten 19mil spread over 18 weeks if the Cowboys didn't cut/trade him.

Now, this year he takes home 12mil from the upfront signing bonus + 3mil salary split over 18 weeks.

I didn't quote anyone originally as I was just referring to his 2022 salary/real take home.

If Dallas let him play out the rest of his original contract, he would of taken 40mil home.
With this extension he still gets 40mil, if he plays out the deal.

Odds are he doesn't play out this new deal, but for Lawrence at least he got a year or two of security based off how the guarantees were laid out

Edit: The only leverage Lawrence had over the Cowboys with his prior contract was that he restructured his deal in 2020, on top of the signing bonus given to him from the extension in 2019.
He had 10mil in dead cap from the first deal still remaining and then the restructure in 2020 added ~3mil on top of his dead prorated signing bonus. So, Dallas was in a hard situation as they would of saved real dollars but cap hit wise they would of had to carry a big dead cap this year or split over two. Add in the team lost RG94 and wasn't loaded at the brim at the time of his new deal, they sort of realized he needed to stay at least a few years longer.

Geez, got a real sensitive Sally over here.

He is neither only making 2 plays a game or an average player.

He agreed to a new contract with guaranteed money of 30 mils and a signing bonus of 12 mils. He gets 12 mils at the day of signing. The 3 mils over the year each gameweek. He earns 15 mils in 2022

His old contract wasnt guaraneed anymore. He had a base salary of 17 mils in his old contract for 2022. But nothing sure and he could have been cut that year or the following year. Also the 17 mils he earns as a 1/17th gamecheck per game. He doesnt get it at once. And its not guaranteed as i said already. If he is suspended or hurt he doesnt get paid.

So yes in essence he has 2 mils less than before in 2022. But then he has 30 mills guarateed and 12 mils on his bankaccount already.
It looks like a paycut but in essence its a raise.

Lawrence is a phenomenal Robin. Having Micah there taking up so much attention has really freed Lawrence to wreak havoc.

You can see how much those two feed off each other. It's really fun to watch
