Yea I do not like how owners hold players hostage after all the guaranteed money is gone from a contract. I'm just saying most of the money goes to the owners and they get to be owners for 30 to 50 years where as the average football career is 3 to 5 years. Pay them or let them go. Get rid of the cap too. Tom Brady shouldn't have to take a pay cut to put pieces around him or in Cowboys world Dak should be expected to take less money. If the owners do a bad contract life goes on; the player came up and it doesnt hurt your team long term.
From what I read one of the reason why they put a cap in was Jones and Bartolo were willing to pay for whatever it took to remain on top. The NFCC game was basically the SB as the Boys/Niners were top teams before the cap was implemented.

I am waiting with bated breath for those of you who are adept at understanding contracts, etc. To break down the actual parameters of this deal. In particular the cap hit over the next few years.

2022 - 19M base... 5M SB... 24M cap (14M savings if cut)

Yeah, that won't happen and shouldn't. Once again, NFL players make more per game than mlb and nba players do. I don't care how the owners are paid. People act like NFL players are under paid because of the the mlb and nba contracts. They also play 162 and 82 games. NFL players fight a 18 game schedule.
NFL players take more years off their life in those less games.....therefore deserve more money than what they are getting IMO. I just have a problem with the owners getting most of the fans money.

With the understanding that there is an automatic restructure built into the 2020 figure that the Cowboys can activate if they need cap space. Should be the same with 2021.

Dallas likely will be paying him all of his money from 2019-2021 one way or another, unless he craps out this year and the Cowboys don't guarantee his base for 2021 (which I assume would make him a free agent). The restructures would push more guaranteed money into those final two years, but with the base not guaranteed those two years, Dallas would be able to cut him and still possibly save money against the cap hit (depending on how much was restructured).

Right. That’s becoming standard practice across the league. Teams are finally realizing that borrowing from the future is actually a benefit, not a deterrent.

Yes, and that's why the get paid more per game, pretty simply. In tanks first 3 years of his contract hell make 1.3m per game. Bryce Harper, who just signed the biggest contract will make 154,000 per game. NFL players take more off their life because its a violent sport which is why you can't give them 10 year contracts that is all guaranteed, it's just not financially smart. As far as the owners getting most of the money, yes, they're the owners. Lol I don't know of any business that a owner doesn't get most of the money.

You also have to consider the rosters and the amount of players in the roster. I'm not a mlb fan and don't watch the nba like I use to but nba rosters have a around 15 and mlb around 20, maybe. I do know they have no where close to 53. I also know that NFL makes more than nba and mlb but also pay out more per year than nba and mlb.

umm they may not have been great contracts but there were contracts given to Marion Barber, Both Roy Williams, plus the trades for RW and Galloway and what was that 1yr wonder safety we gave huge contract too? Id say at least Romo set records here with stats, he eared his money.Dlaw is wait and see but lets remember others Miles Austin etc etc..there were many and many bad contracts that are much worse then those two.thats just off the top of mind heck some say Dezcontract was bad but still not anywhere close to the others I mentioned..

Yeah i know. I am just pissed that the FO again put itself in a losing situation. Same with Romo. He played hardball with them like now DLaw.

I don't understand the complaints here. Always complaining about either FO not aggressive enough or Lawrence too greedy.......

It's a fair deal. In fact I suspect this may be a good deal for both sides when we see deals fro Clark and Clowney. Both FO and Lawrence took chances and signed early in good faith. If either side would have waited for Clark and Clowney to sign then both team and Tank lose. Team loses because Tank delayed his surgery too long and can't get production out of him/value or because Clark or Clowney has such a mega deal FO will need to fork over even MORE money. Tank loses because he's still hurt and he's value declined in the open market for his pay day.

Historically speaking...signing $$ only goes up and rarely down.

That probably has some truth to it but to be honest JJ turned it around with a trade and money. He took a risk that most NFL owners would not have signed off on at time or even now.

I agree. Jones is a risk taker but sometimes you have to take those risks if you want to be successful.

The NFL makes way more revenue than the NBA and MLB. The NBA is getting close but they are still way behind. Yes the NFL has more players to pay but putting things into perspective....Steph Curry makes 40 mil a year in the NBA....that could pay half the salaries in one season of most teams in the NFL.

I don't think we know what MLB makes. They don't open their books so I don't know how we could be confident in what they make or what each individual owner makes.

In 2016 the NFL had revenue of just over 13 billion, the MLB just over 9 billion and the NBA just over 5 billion. For 2018 the NFL had revenue of just over 14 billion, the MLB just over 10 billion and the NBA just over 7 billion. The NBA is growing at twice the rate of the NFL and the MLB.

google NFL NBA MLB revenue either together or separately....you will find it. Good exercise for your thumbs

No, I'm interested in where your data is coming from. I want to understand the source of revenue measured, based on the data you are using. I can find the actual data, I am interested in how you are coming to your conclusion so yeah, like you said, should be a good little exercise for your thumbs.
