This blows but there is no need to draft for desperation. The team can get a very good DE like Dodd or Ogbah in the 2nd round and a guy like Jason Jones can still be signed. Also Spence will likely be on the board if they move down to 15 with TN.

They can fill the four games DLaw and Gregory are out with guys like Mayowa and David Irving, that isn't good but it doesn't justify forcing a bad pick in the top five either.

How many DE's chosen in the first 5 rounds constitutes "desperation"?

I thought substance abuse punishment was:
First offense= 2 game checks
Second offense= 4 game checks
Third offense = 4 game suspension?

Are the punishments different for different substances or did he fail previous tests?

I really hope this doesn't push the Bosa agenda. And for those who will ask "why don't you like Bosa" it is a mix of football "gut" and things I think you can't explain. The guy was all world early in his college career. Then his numbers started to slip year by year and he was getting a little more banged up. I get it, the guy was double and tripled teamed at times. But that is what worries me. He doesn't have all world speed off the edge to start. Then you add that his time getting to the QB was down because of help on him. Well in the NFL one Tyron Smith is as good as some double teams. His competition is going to be way up and he will have to adjust to a more physical game like he experienced the last two years. Sometimes you can't reasonably explain why a certain player doesn't do it for you but in my head he is a guy who will constantly be on the sideline with a "nagging" injury or issue and when he does play it will be a mix of brilliant and "where did he go." So that's my deal with Bosa if it even mattered.

Ummmm, I don't get it. He played almost every snap last year outside of game 1. He led cfb in pressures, top few in hurries and had 16 tfl's to boot. He was bar none the most disruptive dlineman in all college football over the past two years and people think he's not worth a top five????

That article stated (bottom paragraph) that Gregory failed 4 test, which we already knew. I don't see anything that Lawrence failed a previous test....but then again, no one knew that Gregory had failed his 2nd and 3rd test before news of his 4th failure came out. So confusing. Can we get a damn drug test failure tracker already! Who's good with microsoft excel around here?

I'd love to hear from the people who are saying they're jumping off a cliff if Bosa is the pick.

Outside Broaddus calling him Greg Ellis, which is laughable as anyone who watched Ohio State play and even Dane Brugler laughed at, what's the real knock on Bosa? Even the drug risk seems to be overblown after reading the article on how he spent his senior year.

yeah would be nice to know that they failed a test, instead the teams keep it hidden till the guy has
failed so many he will be suspended.
That to me kinda encourages the guy to keep doing it, nobody knows. It is kept secret!
They should make the first fail public, then maybe his dealer will cut him off for awhile?

If this is true, it certainly explains why we've been signing and attempting to sign so many DE's. Looks like a numbers game now.

However, this should in no way affect the draft. If you change your draft plans in any way whatsoever over a 4-game suspension, then you deserve any long term failure you inherit.

Stick to the board; draft the best players. Maybe a lifetime/undetermined ban could affect a close call, but a 4-game suspension for one season should have zero impact on the draft....nadda
WRONG...it effects whether you take another drug risk.

Not the best of websites, but could be the 2nd player JJT was talking about.

Dallas Cowboys starting defensive end Demarcus Lawrence will be suspended for a failed offseason drug test, a source with direct knowledge of the situation told Chat Sports on Wednesday.

Lawrence tested positive for amphetamines, according to the source, which typically carries a penalty of four games. The Cowboys are expected to make an announcement regarding the suspension within the next 24 hours.

Lawrence, the No. 34 overall pick in the 2014 NFL Draft, played in all 16 games (13 starts) for the Cowboys in 2015. He tallied 8.0 sacks and 55 tackles on the season, finishing the year with a sack in seven-straight games.

The Boise State product played in only seven games as a rookie after suffering a fractured right foot in training camp. Lawrence had a strong showing in the postseason, however, recording two sacks, one forced fumble and two fumble recoveries. In the Cowboys' wild card playoff game with the Detroit Lions, Lawrence's sack and fumble recovery with less than a minute to go punched Dallas' ticket into the next round.

so bottom line is we will have the dopers back after 1st 4 games.
Funny these 2 are top picks that were supposed to take the defense to a new level.

This doesnt make the cowboys happy, but it does make some other teams happy !
Week 1:Vs Giants
Week 2 :At Commanders
Week 3 :Vs Bears
Week 4:At 49ers

I'm beyond tired of Dallas taking chances in the second round. The only gamble that has paid off has been Sean Lee since 2010.

Gregory and Lawrence suspended, Carter was just a guy and they for some completely obnoxious reason threw in a TE. Let's not forget they flushed one away to move up for Claiborne.

This is the round where they keep trying to be the smartest guys in the room and it is hurting the team big time.

Yes, the punishments are different. One PED failure is a four game suspension. So this would be his first failed test, since amphetamines are considered a PED.

He wouldn't be suspended without 4 failed test is my understanding. But some drugs may be different
Scandrick comes to mind

The four games are one thing, but these guys have already failed 4 tests. Who has confidence they won't fail another and basically their career is over?

Or starts for your team for the next ten years.
Hope you aren't a Zeke fan btw, he has his own issues.

I like Zeke and Bosa and will be happy with either over Ramsey. Just saying our track record is not good recently with suspensions :(
