That is SO true! :laugh2:

Looks like all the worry warts were worrying for absolutely nothing for an awfully long time. This will be a great deal for Ware and an even greater one for the Dallas Cowboys franchise.

lol at the Commanders is all I can say

we get Ware for 9 mil a year, the skins get Haynesworthless for 11
78/6 = 13

but I get what you're saying :laugh2:

Maybe that's why Jerry was talking to Ware on the field yesterday.

Ya know DE, that's a great point regarding the franchise. It really sets us up nicely for years to come without breaking the bank.

Sometimes we criticize Jerry and much of it is deserved but no one can say he isn't a good owner. He's just a very suspect GM. But I wouldn't trade Jerry the owner for anyone else in the league.

DeMarcus Ware gets his big contract

Posted by Gregg Rosenthal on October 26, 2009 2:53 PM ET

The much-discussed contract extension for Cowboys linebacker DeMarcus Ware has finally arrived.

Fox's Jay Glazer reports that Ware will receive nearly $40 million guaranteed on a six year deal that can be worth up to $13 million per season.

The Cowboys weren't under the gun to extend Ware because the absence of a new labor deal in 2010 would have potentially prevented Ware from being an unrestricted free agent next year.

But Ware has been one of the league's premier defenders since the Cowboys drafted him, and they were smart enough not to risk letting him get away.

Glazer reports that the deal has been verbally agreed to, but still needs league approval.

Good news. Worth whatever he can get. Sounds like we may be getting a bargain.

The deal reportedly maxes out $78 million ($13M annually). Ware is the game's premier pass-rushing 3-4 outside 'backer and led the NFL in sacks with 20 in 2008. The 27-year-old started this season slow, but has caught fire with four sacks in his last two games, and two forced fumbles in his last three. Oct. 26 - 2:50 pm et

WoW that's alot of money for only 6 year if the info is right. I thought he will get a signing bonus that high for maybe 8 years.

I hope we wont regret this kind of deal. But let's see what a possible new salary cup will bring.

oh my GOD... I seriously read the thread title as "Wade extension"

my heart stopped and I nearly fainted...

THANK THE LORD IT'S NOT SO!

so for our cap experts, putting aside the possible uncapped year what does this deal do for our cap status?

it seems like it will have less effect than the type of deal we all thought he would get, but then again i'm an idiot when it comes to cap figures.

Ha. 2 sacks and a FF on a bum foot. Can't wait til it heals. :D

yeah next year when that injury is gone he'll break out HUGE again.

Unfortunately given the type of injury it is, and him playing on it, it's not going to get better this season.

Well, in perspective...

THat is about 6.5 mil a year.

Figure that a guy like Clinton Portis and even Cooley for the skins made over 10 mil each last year, I would say we got a good deal considering the impact the players have had on their teams on the field. I would say Ware had more of an impact for us than either of those two had for the skins.

You have to love Jerry Jones. Two rivals are facing off tonight on MNF and he keeps the Cowboys in the spotlight with this big news.

I haven't paid my respects yet...

Congratulations Demarcus, you and your family deserve every penny

Ware, Cowboys agree to new contract

Ware
For that last few months, Cowboys owner Jerry Jones insisted that he would eventually sign All-Pro linebacker DeMarcus Ware to a contract extension. And according to ESPNDallas.com, it's finally happened.

We don't have the contract numbers yet, but it's safe to assume that Ware will become one of highest-paid defenders in the game. He got off to a slow start this season, but he's made up ground with four sacks over the past two games.

But Jones wasn't negotiating this contract game by game. Ware has already established himself as perhaps the most dynamic pass-rusher in the league -- as evidenced by his 20-sack season in '08. Opposing offensive coordinators have been game-planning around Ware since his rookie season in '05.

He took a patient approach to this negotiation, in part, because he said he grew up without money and has already made more than he ever imagined. Jones made it clear this past offseason that he would not use the potential of an uncapped season in 2010 as leverage in negotiating with Ware.

The Cowboys drafted Ware 11th overall in 2005 despite rumblings that Bill Parcells wanted Shawne Merriman. Five years later, it's pretty obvious the Cowboys made the right decision.

Ware is the rare player who can intimidate quarterbacks and then drop back and cover a running back in space. He's also turned himself into an excellent run defender. We all knew the Cowboys would eventually get this thing done.

Sometimes players are jealous of a teammate's money, but I think everyone in the locker room will be thrilled for Ware. The Cowboys will announce the contract extension at 5:30 p.m. ET this afternoon.
