Ware, Cowboys agree to new contract

The Cowboys drafted Ware 11th overall in 2005 despite rumblings that Bill Parcells wanted Shawne Merriman. Five years later, it's pretty obvious the Cowboys made the right decision.

I dont think this is correct. Didn't Parcells want to draft Spears with that pick? I don't think Merriman was in the conversation.

You have to love Jerry Jones. Two rivals are facing off tonight on MNF and he keeps the Cowboys in the spotlight with this big news.

That explains jerry talking to ware before the game for 10 minutes yesterday.

Sweeeeeetttt. That explains why Jerry shook Demarcus' hand before the game yesterday.

I bet that Jerry's telling Demarcus that he just got 40 mil guarenteed before the game added a little extra fuel to his fire.

CONGRATS WARE!!!!! You deserve every penny of it. And credit to JJ for getting it done without breaking the bank.

Not only is this great deal for both parties, this is another slap in the face to Snyder for the stoopid $100mm deal he signed for haynesworth (7 year $41mm guaranteed $100mm and $115 max). Ware's deal is for $800k more per year in guaranteed money and $3mm less annually in total max salary. Considering the differences in the talent and impact DWare has over big al, this is just another blow to the train wreck of the skins.

No shock. Who else thinks the agent saw what happened to Leon Washington yesterday?

No, we have sensabaugh to sign with austin next year too also, most likely if no labor agreement, then marcus spears can be restricted player for one more year, is what i was told

I'd be careful about Sensabaugh and I'm not worried about Spears. The thing with Sensabaugh is that this is a contract year for him and we don't want to make the same mistake we made with Hamlin when we signed him to a long term contract after his terrific season during his ?: contract year.

If Sensabaugh would be willing to sign a 2 year deal, ala Columbo, to prove he's worth of a long contract aftewards, then fine. Otherwise, we need to move on. We can always find a replacement for him, the same way we found HIM, if we have to, and we're going to need to draft at least one Safety anyways. There are plenty of safeties in next year's draft who we could pick from in the mid rounds and there will be plenty of safeties to chose from in FA who could temporarily do the job while we groom one of ours.

As for Spears, he's a middle of the road player. I'd give him a reasonable offer and if he wants to, let him hit the market. I'd tell him that if another player became available at the same price I'm offering him, or lower, that I would not be waiting for him. Chris Canty is better than Spears and we not only replaced him with another guy who seems to be making a bigger impact, but with a cheaper contract.

7 years 100 million with 41million guaranteed.

Haynesworth will earn 48million his first 4 seasons averaging 12 million per year. And will technically earn the remaining 52 million for his last 3 seasons. (though that is highly unlikely)

Without a breakdown of DeMarcus' deal its hard to compare. I assume the deal is more player friendly and was written expecting DeMarcus to play at a high level for all 6 seasons. So the 13million per year average is probably accurate.

Are you assuming that to make yourself feel better about greatly overspending and giving Haynesworth 12 million a year over 4 years or because you suddenly realize what an extra million per year could have gotten you? Just wondering because it was spun brillantly. ;)

Can't wait to shed Flo's and Hamlins contract.

I sure hope 2010 is uncapped so that we can do just that.

I think, if it is uncapped, that T-New gets let go as well.

Fantastic news!! This is a very reasonable amount. He deserved more so deserves kudos for taking less. Just one more piece of evidence that D Ware has his priorities right.

Wow. Thats a huge contract. 40 mil guranteed? Thats like being the number one qb taken in the draft. I hope he continues to play at a high level because that is a huge chunk of change to justify paying a guy if there is any dropoff at all.

That's actually a very solid argument of why high draft picks are way overpaid. Give me the established best pass rusher in the league over a crapshoot project any day!

He is the best defensive lineman in the league.

You're saying it'd be like crapping out on, say, a Rick Mirer?
