Hopefully this will put an end to all the "Jerry's going broke" stories.

He's going broke now. No big free agent signings this next off season. They won't be able to keep Miles. :D

Parcells wanted nothing to do with Merriman because of the Postons
Merriman didn't announce the switch to the Postons until after the draft.

one player left to sign to a long term contract: Miles " High " Austin. After that, the Cowboys should be set with long term contracts for the next 3 to 4 years.

As a matter of fact, they should be looking into to shedding some future dead weight contracts, like Newman, Hamlin, and Flo, this off season if there's no cap and the rules permit it. All those three players should be replaced after this season even though it might be a year too soon for a couple of them. I'd rather get rid of a player a year too soon than a year too late, especially if the rumors are true that in the new CBA, the cap is going to be much stricter.

Great job as always by Jerry and Stephen and this, just like the many, many, many other examples that they've provided since they took over the franchise, should silence the doubters who keep questioning their business decisions as it relates to personnel.

Once again:

The Dallas Cowboys under the Jones' have never lost a player because of money they wanted to keep.

Print it, laminate it, and thumbtag it on your board.

Nice. Buy high and sell low, huh Jerry? ;)
Sounds like Jerry Jones saved himself about 12 million dollars, earlier projections for the Ware deal were at 90 million.

Now he can franchise Austin if a deal doesn't come to pass.

The way Austin has been playing Jerry had to get a deal done with Ware before the off season started. This will allow them to franchise Austin if necessary.

No, we have sensabaugh to sign with austin next year too

The Cowboys drafted Ware 11th overall in 2005 despite rumblings that Bill Parcells wanted Shawne Merriman. Five years later, it's pretty obvious the Cowboys made the right decision.

It's well documented that Parcells wanted to draft SPEARS at 11 instead of Ware, but was overruled by Jerry, Stephen, and others. Parcells pouted until Spears was still there at 20. Good job by Jerry.

Dallas Cowboys, DeMarcus Ware agree on contract extension

02:24 PM CDT on Monday, October 26, 2009

IRVING – It might have taken some time, but DeMarcus Wareand the Dallas Cowboys have come to terms on a contract extension.

Ware will be signed through 2015, and the contract calls for $40 million guaranteed. The Cowboys have a press conference scheduled for 4:30 today at Valley Ranch.

At 27, Ware is entering the prime of his career and has recorded four sacks in his last two games. A first-round pick in 2005, he has 57.5 sacks in his career and has been named to the Pro Bowl in each of the last three seasons.

Ware led the NFL with 20 sacks in 2008, becoming just the sixth player since sacks became an official stat in 1982 to reach that mark in a season. He also shares the NFL record with Simon Fletcher for consecutive games with a sack with 10 and he holds three of the top-five sack seasons in franchise history.

Without an extension of the collective bargaining agreement, Ware was scheduled to be a restricted free agent after this season.

In the off-season, Washington signed defensive tackle Albert Haynesworthto a seven-year, $100 million deal with $40 million guaranteed. Baltimore outside linebacker Terrell Suggs signed a six-year, $62.5 million deal with $38.1 million guaranteed and Pittsburgh inked James Harrison, who beat out Ware for the NFL Defensive Player of the Year award last season, to a six-year, $51 million deal with $20 million guaranteed.

Ware’s contract falls in line with what owner and general manager Jerry Jones has done in the past, taking care of younger players before they can hit free agency. He has done it with Tony Romo, Bradie James, Jason Witten, Jay Ratliff, Terence Newman and Andre Gurode.

Slightly lower than what I expected at 78 mil and 40 mil guaranteed for a great player like Ware.

However, the Cowboys are loaded with good to great players like Romo, Witten, Bigg, Barber, Felix, Gurode, Ratliff, Colombo, Jenkins, Scandrick, Bennett and now Austin!

On a lesser team, Ware would've gotten the same deal like Haynesworth did or better IMO.

Parcells blew lots of first round picks in his career and was saved embarrassing choices by strongheaded owners named Bob Kraft and Jerry Jones on several occasions.

Parcells wanted Rodney Hampton over Emmitt Smith and took Hampton in 1990, granted he didn't have the opportunity to nab Smith but had no intention to anyhow.

Parcells wanted Illinois defensive end Cedric Jones but was overruled by Kraft who wanted Terry Glenn instead, Parcells made it a mission to patronize and scrutinize if not outright bully Glenn his rookie year before he realized he was the best wide receiver who ever played for him.

Parcells drafted linebacker James Farrior for the Jets when Tony Gonzalez was still on the board and the Jets needed a tightend.

Parcells wanted Byron Leftwich in 2003 but was coaxed into settling for Terence newman, a 25 year old rookie, who's age deterred parcells initially.

Parcells was infatuated with LSU defensive end Marcus Spears, who was eventually drafted but almost at the cost of passing on DeMarcus Ware.

Bobby Carpenter was taken in the first round of 2006 over a plethora of more worthy candidates.

Shows me that Demarcus isn't worried about making all the money he just wants to play ball.

Wow! What a bargain for someone like this. It just proves Ware wants to be a Cowboy. How does this compare to Lil' Abner's deal in Washington? Wasn't his for 100 Mil?
7 years 100 million with 41million guaranteed.

Haynesworth will earn 48million his first 4 seasons averaging 12 million per year. And will technically earn the remaining 52 million for his last 3 seasons. (though that is highly unlikely)

Without a breakdown of DeMarcus' deal its hard to compare. I assume the deal is more player friendly and was written expecting DeMarcus to play at a high level for all 6 seasons. So the 13million per year average is probably accurate.

looks like you guys are right

apparently both Parcells and Jerry told Merriman on separate occasions that he would be the pick at 11
