Demaryius Thomas - WR - Broncos
The Denver Post reports the Broncos will apply the franchise tag to free agent Demaryius Thomas on Monday.

Both Dez Bryant and Demaryius can expect tags on Monday. Beat writer Mike Klis guesses Thomas won't sign the one-year franchise tender until after the Broncos' offseason program is completed, allowing him to skip the activities without penalty. The wide receiver tag is expected to be worth $12.797 million. The Broncos offered Demaryius a deal worth $13 million annually last summer, but Thomas was "seeking something north of $15 million per." He proceeded to set the Broncos' franchise record for receiving yards (1,619).

wide receiver contracts are getting out of control. then again this is a passing league now so that makes the position that even more in demand.

It's not a passing league any more

I also would like to have two good wrs then one wr who also takes up to 15% of the cap. I still think that this is a passing league because most teams still do not value the running back position.

Let him take that much cash, but it's hard to commit that much salary to one guy even with subsequent cap raises. A good QB and a good OL will make average WR's look better than they are.

Would rather have 2 or 3 WRs who can get open and run all the routes then 1 star WR making LT money

Do you find it interesting that they will probably let Julius Thomas walk and keep Demaryius?

Seems like the logical answer is to use the draft to replace them, get their replacements a year or two experience and let the DEZs and Thomas' test FA.... Superbowl contending teams don't spend that kind of money for a WR.

Amazing what Peyton Manning does to a career.

Peyton by far is the best receiver coach in football. Pre-Peyton, Thomas was extremely raw with his route running, now he's one of the best in football.

I don't know if I like paying a WR this much either. I am however tired of hearing that "no" receiver is worth this much. Dez Bryant doesn't just contribute to the Cowboys winning games, he flat out wins them sometimes. He is a player that transcends silly cliches like "no receiver is worth x amount".

I don't know if he is worth 15 million a year, but I do know you can't apply linear logic to his contract. Like Romo, he can win games you flat out aren't suppose to. Yes, you can argue that redistributing his money in order to make the team more balanced is indeed a better option, but don't delude yourself into thinking that 2 good receivers is somehow better than one great receiver. Witten is a good receiver, Williams is a good receiver, and most of the free agents we could snag are good receivers. Do any of those "good" receivers catch even 10% of the catches worthy of making it into a Dez Bryant highlight reel? How valuable are those catches anyways (no seriously, that's the argument isn't it)?

I think we saw the value of the catches Dez can make in the playoffs and leading up to the playoffs. Good receivers don't always make those catches, and neither does Dez, but that 15 million isn't just getting you a few hundred more yards a year and a few more touchdowns, it is getting you something much harder to put value on.

I have confidence in Dez performing as a super star for the Cowboys, as I'm sure everyone of you does as well. Please compare that to the confidence you have in the Cowboys (or any team) effectively redistributing that money into free agency. I'm betting on Dez, and up until this point anyone who has bet against him has been wrong.

Dez makes crazy circus catches all year. Without him we lose a lot of games...
