Depleted D Only Gives up 21 Pts

They pitched a shutout in the second half, good adjustment. The offense didn't help so much with all those turnovers, they may have held em to less points.

Can we stop blaming the D now? Romo and company were nowhere near Top 5 on O. That's all many of you have been harping on all offseason, get a clue...

It was 28-3 in the first half, do you not understand SF's 2nd half offensive strategy? They scored a TD in 3 plays from their own 20 when the needed to.

Defense played great in my opinion. Far exceeded what I was expecting from them. Poor old Romo decided to stick us in the gut and ruin it.

i know people are trying to be optimistic and take something good for this game. But they were up 28-3, you don't think they took their foot a little bit off the pedal? Toss in a couple of shady referee calls and hey, it actually looked like the cowboys stopped the 49ers

We definitely got the benefit of calls but we're just not good enough to take advantage of it. And "ultra-solid" Durant had a chance at the easiest of of all potential INT's and couldn't do that either so it is what it is. Another Cowboys stink-fest.

I'm looking at everything open underneath, like the back door slants, and middle of the field. Why not gamble more on playing more man and challenge these corners to jump routes.

That play is why. I think these corners who were sold to us as being better at man perhaps really aren't.

To not score but pretend to try for 2 whole quarters? Coach made some adjustments, don't kid yourself San Fran never took their foot off the gas, they were still throwing the ball around and Kap even tried running with it a few times...

If by consistent you mean consistently chasing TE's or WR's all over the field running with the football... and if you mean solid by coming up with a solid form tackle on said juking target- then I agree with you.

Well i'll tell you what if you have Church guarding Receivers and Durant guarding TE's than you've already failed. They are not cornerbacks.

One play really doesn't make me question that. I question the philosophical approach. Corners will get beat every now and then in man, but we can't be playing that far off on 3rd downs and allow the opposition to move at will on us consistently.

Same thing every year, you can never get a complete game from this team. If the defense plays well enough to win, you can count on the offense or special teams, usually 2 of the 3 will crap the bed.........

Emblematic of Garrett's tenure. Throw in the drive killing penalties on offense and the drive extending penalties on defense, and its deja vu all over again.

I'm not kidding myself, neither was Harbaugh - all he had to do was not be Tony vs. Detroit in 2012.

I don't disagree with that at all. But Garret is conservative to a fault. If he doesn't trust his corners to do that, he would rather give up the 6 yard reception on 3rd and 5 than the big play.

Again, just looking for reasons, not arguing you are wrong.

Yeah, I'll give him more time but he did seem to be a step behind the entire day. But it will be an entirely different defense if/when we get some pass rush and Scandrick returns.

I think a did better than many people thought on the pass rush, we hit Kaep and the pressure up the middle was nice, getting Scandrick then Spencer should help more, Mincey for a big boy kept getting off his blocker.

True, plus Hayden played most of the game at the 1 and has always been a guy with zero push on passing downs. Getting T. McClain back at the 1 Tech will help as well.

Exactly right.

If they went into the half down two scores they'd have put up 40 plus points.
