Depleted D Only Gives up 21 Pts

The Niners seemed somewhat disinterested at 28-3, Dawson missed a chip shot and they had 40 yards wiped out to Vern Davis on a terrible offensive PI call. I mean they weren't 2013 awful, but they weren't any good either.

Agree, Love to get O-scan back and see what McClain could bring to the DLine, along with a full go Melton

Part of me feels this way. The larger part of me remembers that Tony Romo is our QB. Any QB that would audible out of 2nd and 1 at the 2 to an empty set is a moron and not fully of his faculties.

What is the consensus on the snaps Melton got.........anyone really zero in on his performance 1st time out

Not a lot, but if you told posters here that our DT starters would be Hayden and a UDFA for this game everyone would assume we gave up 400 yards rushing today.

I'm willing to give the defense a pass for the 2 TD's that Tony and those fools set them up for, I am ok with that.

But Rod 'Walk on Water' Marinelli needs to start feeling some heat, what was this soft *** no press, zone coverage that we were sitting in all game? It looked like a game of Madden with Kaepernick dropping back and throwing wherever he pleased. Of course when the offense spots the other team 21 points it makes it hard on the defense, and for the most part i think the guys on that side of the ball rose to the challenge, but that defensive game plan was despicable

If you play man, Kaep can run wild before the secondary has clue. Though on third downs, I agree. If you pressure, take away the short stuff first and foremost with chippy coverage.

SF. Dialed it back...hell, they were up 14-3 before we could think.

But yet, the D played better than many thought they would and it for sure was the 4 turnovers that kept this from being real game.

They pitched a shutout in the second half, good adjustment. The offense didn't help so much with all those turnovers, they may have held em to less points.

Can we stop blaming the D now? Romo and company were nowhere near Top 5 on O. That's all many of you have been harping on all offseason, get a clue...

Who would've thought? I guess all those fortune tellers need to reset...or at least wait until it plays out.

...and I don't want to hear it from the people who dismissed them before they played a down. I hope they don't either. Find some edge.

Romos done that for his entire career. The coaches shouldn't send in a 4 wr package and give him the temptation....send in the Jumbo short yardage group with Parnell and Weems and basically force him to stay in it.

I'd say the defense was bad but it wasn't terrible. Basically a step in the right direction. I wasn't impressed by the ability of the niners to sustain a drive.

They didn't dial it down. They were trying to score most of the game. Just because we got a few stops doesn't mean that they dialed it down. Infact most of their points came off of a

- 7 for fumble recover

-7 1 yard TD off INT

-Short field due to INT

They wouldn't dial it down going up against Romo by any means.

It's hard to figure out what to take from this game. I don't think the offense will be as terrible as it looked today, but I don't think the defense will be as.. average, I guess, as they looked today either. I expect them to be pretty bad.

The pass rush was pretty impressive actually, all things considered. The secondary looked terrible though. Just completely lost - so many busted coverages, included the big Vernon Davis play that probably would have ended up putting at least 3 more points on the board.

I'm looking at everything open underneath, like the back door slants, and middle of the field. Why not gamble more on playing more man and challenge these corners to jump routes.
Because no one dependable is covering over top. This team biggest hole still continues to be a quality FS.

It was 28-3 in the first half, do you not understand SF's 2nd half offensive strategy? They scored a TD in 3 plays from their own 20 when the needed to.

If this is the self-loathing fantasy we're going to have to endure until late Wed this week, well, I'm just going to hate it. I think I've grown too fond of the old loathsome arguments about Jason and Tony and Jerry. Though I imagine we'll get to revisit some of those, too. Especially the Tony ones.

Can't wait.

Yeah, that would have been seven, I'm guessing. The refs bailed us out, big time, on that drive. If I were a 9er fan, I'd have been livid.

Did Melton even play? I saw Hayden and #60 out there a lot.

A healthy Melton and T McClain would have given our DL a boost yesterday. Hopefully they come back soon.
