Derrick Dockery this years Kyle Kosier

Oh, I'm not saying he can't play, but I've seen a lot of comments about potential free agents and the term "he is from Texas" as if that should have any sort of bearing on a free agent or draftee.

As far as the comments about Dallas staying away from Texas players, I don't think they have necessarily stayed away from players with Texas roots (Crayton, Ayodele, Keith Davis, Aaron Glenn, Whitley.....off the top of my head). I do think they have avoided UT, however. I think that is the college that the FO was referring to when they mentioned "country club" colleges.
That happens all the time, everywhere.

Remember when we let Larry Allen go? Everyone knew he would go to the 49ers because he was from that area.

There is such a thing as a person just wanting to "go home." Another example from another sport is Roger Clemens going to the Astros.

I don't see what the big deal is about people pointing that out. When they say it, it means that it (being from Texas) could be a positive thing that could tip the scales a little bit in favor of something we all may want. That's all. No need to get up in arms about it.

I think the difference between Dockery and Gurode was that Dockery has been an underachiever since college. Gurode was dominant in college. Gurode's problems werent' laziness or motivation, the light bulb just didn't come on. Or maybe he just never got any confidence in himself. Dockery has had the laziness rep for as long as I can remember. If were going to take someone like that, I would rather have Leonard Davis. Dockery's ceiling is Pro Bowl alternate. Davis' ceiling is the Hall of Fame.

Dockery is a very good guard. His size and age will make him a hot commodity on the market.

The only knock against him is he has some troubles in pulling. He doesn't move very well, and is pretty slow (which isn't unexpected for a guy his size). Otherwise, he is a very good player

Exactly. Nothing like home cooking, plus the luxury of having family around and the off-season transition isn't as hard if you already at home.

In fairness, that's not the ONLY knock. He also has a penalty problem that is above what is acceptable for a guard.

Thanks for the input

Interesting. Is there a listing of most and least penalized Olinemen.

I hope he's not suspect in the false start area, because if so I'd pass. The kid is right next to the center even though he takes up his own zipcode.

Not to mention that just because you moved to say Arizona, it doesn't mean all of your family and friends did to be with you. There is something to be said about "coming home."

I guarantee you that if Tony Romo hits Free Agency the speculation will be Green Bay because he is from Wisconsin, grew up idolizing Favre, and is from a family of Packers fans.

If that doesn't make more sense to speculate on than say Atlanta, then I submet that the only reason is because Green Bay has an entrenched starter and Atlanta is in a frantic search and has a lot of cash.

The other thing I don't like about Dockery and Davis is that it is a direct contrast to the type of offensive linemen that the team has been trying to bring in for the last couple of years.

Find a system and stick with it. A mish mash of skill sets along the offensive line never works either.
It's already mixed so nothing we throw in there now is going to clarify the soup. We've got a very large, powerful LT next to a small, agile LG, next to powerful C, next to whatever we're going to put in there, next to whatever Colombo qualifies as.

Superpunk, I'm just not sure that's true. It was true up until the last couple seasons and he did have six false starts last year but he only had 1 holding penalty other than that. And he was on an OL that underperformed. The guy gave up 40 yards of penalties all year.

I dont know about most penalized, but last season he had 7 penalties (lowest of his career) 6 of them were false starts (not a career high)

He is indeed but very good at everything else, penalty-wise. See my previous post.

6 false starts is atrocious for a guard.

And that was his good year?

I do agree with the post you made (here or elsewhere) about the hodge-podge line "style" we have. I had used that reasoning for avoiding a guy like Blalock, but it is true, we've got such a mix it doesn't matter. Unless, that's the reason they look like ******** cats alot, instead of an actual unit.

That troubles me about them. Individually, they are pretty decent players. But their work as a unit is many times horrifying. You watch the really good running teams create lanes, when they REALLY get rolling, and it's a thing of beauty. We look so disjointed it's not even funny.

Yeah, they may want to choose one way or the other but at this stage they can go either way. Colombo's kind of a power guy, Dockery IS a power guy, as is Gurode. Flo's certainly more of a power blocker than an agile one.

Only Kosier would stand out but that could be worked around -- presumably WP could bring his "strength of the player" approach to the OL, at least in a limited way.

We'll have to agree to disagree on Dockery's penalties. I would gladly take 6 false starts and 1 holding penalty for our starting RG for all of 2007.

He can play, but he isn't on the Dielman/Steinbach level neither was Kosier. I 'd like similar production with the chance for a huge upside.

And to not be sinking huge money at the guard spot. New England, Philly and other teams who have been consistant over the last 6 or so years don't spned that much in FA. Linemen can be drafted, or signed cheaply.

I didn't know he has a brother at UT.

My mom has lived in Garland, TX for 7 years and I've seen local highschool football games whenever I am visiting. I never got a chance to see Dockery play at Lakeview High, but he a legend there based on the accomplishments.

I hope he's wants to wear the star.

Here is some info on Cedric Dockery. He started last year and played well before blowing out his ACL, I think he will come along nicely.

I want us to sign Dockery just for the fact that we'd be sticking it to the Skins

that he's pretty good, and has his whole career in front of him to get even better doesn't hurt either ;)

I just want to build a behemoth wall around Tony Romo.

Get back that feeling of invincibility........

I'd rather have a guard that had 6 false starts and 1 holding penalty all season versus a guard that had 2 false starts and 3 holding penalties during the season.

False starts are purely mental... holding penalties show a lack of ability to cleanly make a block.
