December 30th, with 7 minutes and 27 seconds remaining in the first quarter, Deuce Vaughn rips off a 47-yard touchdown run, giving birth to the Deuce and Boost! :flagwave:

You guys talk about getting him the ball in space. Why? We don’t get our real running backs the ball in space. Why change now?

Also, what’s with the references to his top end speed. His 4.4 is self-reported. It was also reported his best pro day run was 4.6 and I’ve seen 4.56 as as estimated speed in google. Quick - yes, fast - no.

Face it, our Deuce is as disposable as Summer’s Eve.

To be fair these coaches have started Dennis Houston at wide receiver and refused to deploy their biggest back in most short yardage and goal line situations. They also insist that Chuma Edoga is the best we can do at LT when Tyron is out. The same coaching staff continues to play Donovan Wilson at deep safety and uses a 6 DB alignment in running situations on defense. In short, their track record is littered with head scratching personnel decisions. I am going to stop well short of assuming they're always right.
Agreed.

However, Duece's success does remain to be seen.

I see him in a similar way to Sproles. He's not a run up the middle back. But you can use him for things like extended handoffs through screen passes. Get him the ball away from the DEs, and he can get a lot of yards.
You are correct to a point. However if the defense knows you are never going to run a guy up the middle they will overplay the outer edges and minimize his effectiveness. So you have to sacrifice one of two plays into the teeth of the defense in order to create those outside opportunities.

Sure, but there are creative ways to do it like a short screen up the middle.

Whatever plan they had for Deuce entering the season went out the window when the offense got off to a slow start. Once we became a passing team that eliminated him from the equation. One of the last times I remember him getting some snaps at RB he missed a block that almost got our QB killed. He can’t block which is one reason he’s not seeing the field. When he’s had opportunities to run the ball he’s averaging under 2.0 a carry.

Better option than Huepke. But yea, glad we didn’t add a vet back at the deadline. Lol!

Deuce had almost no blocking when he played earlier in the year. Give him a little blocking and he will play well.
He missed a block that almost led to big trouble. One reason and possibly the main reason he’s not getting opportunities is he can’t block. He’s too small.
