Whatever plan they had for Deuce entering the season went out the window when the offense got off to a slow start. Once we became a passing team that eliminated him from the equation. One of the last times I remember him getting some snaps at RB he missed a block that almost got our QB killed. He can’t block which is one reason he’s not seeing the field. When he’s had opportunities to run the ball he’s averaging under 2.0 a carry.
You are correct across the board. Deuce is an extreme liability in pass protection. They may use him
In 2 back sets. The other back protects and he wheels out of the backfield.

This is why they needed to trade for Henry but we wasted trading for lance. Henry could have been had for that fourth and a second
So you wanted to trade a second round pick and a fourth round pick for an aged RB that's as old as Zeke?

A second round pick alone would have drafted Henry to begin with. He would have been young, and most importantly cheap.
That's where you use the second rounder. Dallas could have done that in the last draft instead of a third/second string TE.

This team was not one "Henry" away from glory. A #2 and #4 pick is an utter waste of precious draft capital.

main problem here is everyone keeps wanting to compare this guy to sproles who was 5’7 the Deuce at most is 5’4. Second we run a west coast. A scat back does not fit into the west coast scheme. A back like deuce can only get meaningful yards out of RPO’s with guards who can get out onto space for short screens
Deuce measured 5ft. 5 at the combine. Sproles 5ft. 6.

When they thought Dowdle might miss a game earlier, McCarthy mentioned Davis as possibly replacing him, not Vaughn. Even Turpin has had more meaningful carries than Vaughn who’s gotten mostly mop up carries. The FB we have is averaging 1.3 a carry which less than the 1.8 Vaughn is averaging. The Cowboys being a pass first offense is keeping Vaughn off the field because he can’t block and hasn’t shown anything in the running game with the opportunities he’s gotten. He’s had almost as many negative carries as positive carries.
But the FB is about 6 for 6 on 1st down conversions
Likely gonna be under 2.0 ypc
Nice plsy on stats though.

The point I’m making is they see more value in a FB that can push out a yard or two for a first down than a small RB that may provide a big play but who could also take a loss putting you behind the chains.

Yeah he has been pretty good when used in those situations. Which made it all the more surprising and disappointing when he sorta spazzed on the goal line. One thing I will say though is he runs too high in those short yardage situations. There have been a couple of times when he should have gotten the first down easily but got initially stopped in the hole because he was running too tall but was still strong enough to bull ahead for the first down on second effort.

What if Deuce breaks off a 60 yarder . That would be great . Use the weapons on the roster .

Very thoughtful to feed miniature bites to the Felines. Tender & easier to digest.

While I am rooting for Deuce we all know he can't pass protect. So do the Lions. So when he is in there the Cowboys will need to put another back in there (Luepke?) or have a tight end in the backfield to protect Dak.

While I think Vaughn can be a weapon I am unsure how effective this offense can be throwing the ball when he's out there. There very well will be a "package" for him but I fear it will just be some real simple plays for whenever Pollard needs a rest.
