Definitely let him go at that price. I doubt anyone pays him that on the open market.

I don't think any team in their right mind will give him 17 mil a year. That is qb type money. If Al Davis was alive maybe. Dez needs to come back to reality. Teams have shown that you don't need an elite receiver to win a Super Bowl.

You watch this thread... there will be at least a couple folks who go the "Just give Dez the money, he's the heart & soul of this team, yada, yada, yada" route.

The average yearly is meaningless. If we are talking about him collecting 51 mill over the next three years vs. 45 mill then we are hand-wringing over the wrong things. That 17 mill is going to look tiny three years from now.

Just to repeat what I said over the weekend, I'm sick of this negotiation becoming public and hearing about this in the media when it should be behind closed doors.

Normally, I agree with this, but I don't in this case. With Dez stating he's considering skipping games and the fact that prior to this news leaking every comment section on the net and this site have been filled with "Pay the man, Jerry!" comments, I think it's important to understand the situation better. I'm all for paying Dez a great contract, but not at the expense of losing other players or being unable to bring in help the next few seasons as a result.

If true, cease negotiations now. He can sign the franchise tag or rot until he does. I hope this is a bored writer

I agree or if not it is just talk out of the Dez camp to ask for more than they know they can get but maybe get closer to the number they hope to get. I try not to let contract talks get to me since much of it is hot air that is meant to draw a reaction.

"Good luck"

However, they are negotiating. Asking for 17, if the Cowboys are presenting him a 10million a year deal, and they could settle at 13m give or take. If he won't budge, draft another receiver next year and franchise Dez again.

I couldn't care less about the money per that he seeks...it's all about the guaranteed money to me. Fitz is averaging 11mil per and people will discuss that figure while failing to mention that the deal he signed is 2yrs/22mil with 22mil guaranteed.

As I have said many times, I hope the Boys and Dez can find a happy median but I am all for these young guys making the most money they can make. I hope he stays healthy and collects the 28mil guaranteed from Dallas for 2015 and 2016 then gets 40mil in guarantees in free agency. That is Revis like business savvy for a non-QB. Again, curious to see how the WR deals play out but with the cap increasing each season Dez will look really good playing with Andrew Luck in Indy or Russell Wilson in Seattle in 2017. Don't rule out Aaron Rodgers and Green Bay either.

If this is true its insane. That's way too much and would hurt this team over time more than helping it. Hope this isn't true

Dez will blink first. Sooner or later. Dallas will make a reasonable "take or leave it" offer right before July 15th, and he'll make his decision to take it or play on the franchise. It'll be on him.

So much is being written about Dez, but there are multiple receivers awaiting deals.
