ROFL. This type of stuff is pure hatred.

Dez might have been broke before signing his new deal. That can happen when you are at the end of a rookie deal awaiting a huge payday and have debts yet no current paycheck.
But obviously Dez didn't panic considering he signed his deal for an insane amount of money at the last possible minute.
He could have panic-signed for 12m a year months earlier.
Also Jerry and Stephen flew to NYC not the agents flying to Dallas. Who exactly was desperate again??

As to the other stuff, Dez has been in Dallas a while now and OBVIOUSLY came in with time mgmt and other issues.
He has curtailed those issues mightily.
Going back and re-hashing the same tired stuff is just terrible reporting.

Dallas was so worried about Dez they gave him the bulk of his money up front in the first couple seasons... all while giving up any contract language tied to his monitoring and counseling.

Dez has no endorsements except Jordan and Nike?!?!?!?
That's called brand protection and big-time celebrities do that.
Dez doesn't need to push Chicken Wings or Used Cars.

It might be unusual but it isn't very important. He will get 7m right now, 9m over the 17 weeks of the season, 7 next March and another 9m next season. That is still 32m any way you slice it.

With another 13m guaranteed for 2017 and 25m available after that.

Did you think I didn't the know numbers and contract structure?

You don't seem to have a strong grasp on how much money he will be getting within a short period of time.

32m paid out by the end of 2016 isn't a slow dribble or saying they don't trust him with his own money.

Because it had a big affect on the contract negotiations. The contract has very unusual provisions for deferring much of his signing bonus. There was NO salary cap benefit in the deferrals. It appears the only reason for the deferrals is because they didn't want him to get all of the money up front.

If he goes broke, it will be a big distraction for him. The Cowboys want to avoid that situation (again). They've already advanced him money in the past when creditors threatened legal action against him.

I don't see how him going broke will effect him on the field. If anything I would think that would make you want to go harder to get even more money. Either way, I think it's premature to say he will be broke. The ink on his contract isn't even dry yet.

The issue is not what you or I think, but what the Cowboys think. The contract is definitely unusual. They deferred 7M of his signing bonus to next year and they will pay about 1/2 of the remainder weekly during this season. It is very obvious that they didn't want him to get the entire signing bonus up front. There is not salary cap benefit to the deferrals.

There is no other reason for the deferrals. It does not help the salary cap. It had to be part of the negotiation because the player and his agent would obviously prefer the signing bonus up front. The team would not go to the trouble of negotiating the deferrals into the contract for no reason. It is a negotiation and they probably wanted to delay his pay even more, but this is where they ended up in the final agreement. Nonetheless, it shows a strong desire on the part of the Cowboys to delay the money.

He's getting 23m between now and March. At which point he picks up another 13m in guaranteed money.

And who is to say cash flow wasn't a consideration?

Brady redid his deal last year that freed up a ton of cash for the Krafts. Nobody will confuse the kraft family as being in financial straits right?

With taxes, dues, and fees, how much of that $70 million is available to spend?
