This is amazing. One game and suddenly we are the next coming of the Patriots or Colts - suddenly we are elite, with even Sam Hurd being talked up as among the best No. 3 WR's in football, which is going way overboard.

Come on guys, it was a great win, and I'm encouraged and loved every second of it. but one game out of three does't completely erase the slate and start everything new. We need to see how this translates to the future.

As for the intitical topic of the thread - Dez Bryant - there certainly is plenty to be excited about. I'm not going to start throwing predictions around just yet, but neither am I going to put limitations on him. The guy looks like he will be a tremendous asset for the team.

I'm excited to have him on our team. He has that fire and passion that Irvin did.

Dez is a special player. He will give us a long ball specialist.

He'll be like Larry Fitzgerald. You'll never want to leave him in a 1-on-1 matchup even if he is perfectly covered because he just has that ability to go up and take the ball away from the other guy.

The thing that I love about this is that means more favourable matchups for Austin coming down the pipeline.

We are going to be a nightmare for opposing DCs if the OL play holds up.

Um, nobody said any of that. We're celebrating a much needed victory. And yes, Dez is all that.

the one play where he fought for more yards and got the first down even after being almost stopped short made my day and was a big factor in this game.

yes smokie and the way austin fought and damn near scored ....

apparently you haven't read the thread.

It just seems there is a lot of giddiness that is a little much considering how poorly we have played in 2 out of 3 games. I suppose when I started reading that suddenly we have an unmatched trio of WR's after all the concern over Roy for 2 years, and that suddenly Sam Hurd was better than most of the No. 3's around the NFL, I thought some had taken the giddiness too far. To the extent the thread has kept to the original topic, I understand the excitement about Dez.

Although the number may not show it, this guy is going to be a beast for years to come. Two near touchdowns were negated by inches when he was out of bounds. The catches he made showed just what great hands and concentration he has.

Roy Williams also is playing very well and i thnik teams are starting to leave him more on 1 on 1 coverage because we have too many weapons.

I understand the rule about not being able to be the first player to touch the ball after going out of bounds, but wasn't he pushed out of bounds by the defender? He was certainly beyond the threshhold of where he can be juked by the defender, or so I thought.

My recollection is that you are correct. I would need to go back and look at it though. If the contact was incidental and Dez just went too far to try and get around the defender, then he could not come back in, but if it was clearly a push out of bounds, that's different.

Barring injury, Dez is going to become a star at WR. The only thing he doesn't have is big-time speed. He is big, strong, great hands, great concentration, tough and knows how to get open and give Romo a good target.

I wouldn't be surprised if he puts up 1000 yards when all is said and done. The only thing that will hold him back is a resurgent RW11 holding onto the #2 WR role all-year.

Right now, it looks to me like we're going to keep RW11 through the 2011 season (assuming there is one) and force teams to try and deal with all 3 of these guys. However, I do think RW11 will end up as the #3 in this triumvarite.

The scary thing is that he does have game changing speed

The first almost-a-touchdown was impressive. It wasn't an easy catch, but it looked easy for him. ... also great to see his competitive spirit. He has the look of a very serious football player.

I don't see that. I see good speed, enough that defenses will have to worry about, but I don't see extraordinary speed. What I see is a guy who, if he reaches his apparent potential, will be a star by being a complete package with solid speed, hands, size, strength etc. He's not going to be mistaken for Rocket Ismael or Willie Gault or Joey Galloway in the speed department though.

Do you ever say anything good about the team? If dez wasn't fast he wouldn't have been able to get back in bounds after being hit and still get wide open.

Do you ever read what you comment on? After all, I wrote this:

So, tell me how it is that you interpereted that line to mean I didn't think he was fast.

In addition, I talked up Dez Bryant's skills as a complete package type receiver, so tell me how that is being negative about him.

That one was pass interference the DB pushed him before the ball arrived in mid air or he would have had a td

This was a pretty dull minded response considering there wasn't a thing I said that indicated panic or depression or dejection. I merely said this was one week out of 3, and we still have to be realistic about that and recognize the key is how it translates to the future.

It's a process, and the season is a marathon. It's good to be excited - I am too - but this week doesn't tell us we everything is rosey and bright, just like last week didn't spell doom for the team. It was merely a step in the right direction. That was my message.

If you are one of those blind homers who rise and fall with every game as if that particular week tells everything, you are much more likely to have the problem, because that's a narrow minded and unrealistic viewpoint.
