NFL contracts are rarely played out to completion

Look at LFitz. AJohnson, PHarvin, DBowe, DJackson etc..........

Agreed, but the Cowboys have even come out and said that they are not into these "Add years at the end to mitigate the pain of the cap" contracts. And it's been a while since they've given one.

I hope they don't start again.

It doesn't make much sense for either party to do a long term deal.

Almost guaranteed one party won't be happy with the deal in 4 years.

The problem however is that Dez wants as much guaranteed money as he can get right now.

A 3 or 4 years deal might be the most sensible thing to do right now with basically all of it guaranteed.

Then he absolutely walks.

Dallas has no choice if they want to keep him more than 2 years.

Paying 28m the next 2 years at full cost on the salary cap isn't very smart.

Why?

That would be 14M average which is less than he wants with a contract.

If they sign him and push money forward, then they probably don't push money forward with other contracts like Romo's. Either way they are unlikely to push the max amount forward.

They only get him 2 years and they are paying full retail with no pro-rations.

They cannot eliminate risk completely and compete for the top players. Guys like Hardy, McClain and Melton all have huge question marks and if they do work out you have to pay them eventually.

If you're not paying guys like Dez. Young. Productive. Lives and dies football. Lives and breathes Cowboys.

What's the freaking point.

Dez is one guy, not the end all be all.....if these so called all time great, they'd be leading their teams to Superbowls every year , yet they aren't..ask New England, they have no problem winning divisions and Superbowls without over paying for receivers.....in fact when one of theirs think they need a big contract(Welker), they say see ya later and replace them with cheaper cast offs and never skip a beat...

I'm leaning towards this as being the correct answer.

Get two years out of him and then let him go earn the Cowboys a comp pick.

When are you guys going to get it ? i keep telling you if you keep Dez on a franchise tag, you may not get the same Dez you have seen.he knows that if he gets hurt only one year is Guaranteed. so he is going to do everything in his power to not get hurt. he knows if he gets hurt, he will lose millions of dollars. some of you guys have got to wake up. if the cowboys have no Dez the first 2 games against the Giants and Philly. the cowboys are going to be 0 and 2 for the year. and 0 and 2 in the division. then it's to late to pay him, because the season may well be over. PAY THIS MAN. GIVE HIM A LONG TERM DEAL.

Not to start a fight, but with Dez on the team they have gone over eight wins once in five years.

So you think letting Murray walk was epic fail? Isn't that a knock on Romo

Give him a 10 year, 300M contract, that is really a 5 year, 50M deal. Dez would push his agents out of the way to sign it. It would stroke his ego even if it's technically a bad deal for him. He could tell the world he signed the biggest contract ever in the NFL which is all he really cares about. With his ego, he would assume they would really pay the final 5 years at 250M.

Dude it's not about ego, it's about worth...

Yall cried to resign an above average rb yet want to let a top 3 WR walk.

This place is bass akwards

Exactly. Cowboys fan would melt down the minute dez would be let go. He isn't going anywhere and will be signed long term. How the Hell could you honestly not lock up top three receiver. Like it or not wr pay is one of the top paying position. I say when odb gets his contract in four years you will think dez deal is little.

No one knows what the market price is for a marquee WR. Julio Jones, AJ Green, Demaryius Thomas, and Dez Bryant and the agents and the teams are trying to sort it all out.

Threatening to sit out game(s) is not a good way to attract attention especially when you are making $12M guaranteed for 2015 and a high probability of getting $16M the following year.

Note to Dez: let your agent do the talking. That is why you are paying him.

This has major distraction written all over it. He's going to miss mandatory workouts is my guess. Technically, he wouldn't be fined because he wouldn't be under contract.

I'm dying to know what Dez is asking for, and what Jerry has already offered... I'd pay good money to get audio clips of their contract negotiations

If dez wants to play this out in the public then Stephen jones should join the argument. Tell Dez sign the Franchise tag, take 13 million or risk being traded. Sure Ceveland or Jacksonville would love an opportunity to get Dez. This kid is trying to blow up any hope of a super bowl for the Cowboys. Hero to Zero by opening his mouth.

Don't play Dez childish media games..... bottom line Shut up Dez an grow up an let your agent do his job......I don hear D Thomas crying in the media. Just shut up Dez
